Okay, first off, Voodoo is NOT evil. It is NOT what Hollywood portrays it as. As to the person who mentioned that whatever you do comes back on you--that's not a belief practiced in Voodoo. You find it primarily in Wicca, which is nothing like Voodoo.

Voodoo is a religion that honors the loa, intermediaries between humanity and God. It's not about black magic, or murderous zombies, or anything of that nature. In fact, forget everything you've ever seen in a movie.

Voodoo is a syncretic religion that is based on the traditional religions of certain groups of African slaves that were forcibly brought to America. They combined their traditional beliefs with the imagery of Catholicism to avoid perseuction by their "owners". Other Afro-Caribbean religion also had similar roots. Voodoo is the most common religion in Haiti, and New Orleans was also a major hotspot for the religion prior to the flooding.

Here are some good websites to start with.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Voodoo (make sure you read the myths and misconceptions section in particular)

http://altreligion.about.com/od/africanreligions/Voodoo_African_Religion.htm

http://www.jamardaresources.com/afrocarib.htm

Also, surprisingly enough, "The Complete Idiot's Guide to Voodoo" by Shannon Turlington is actually a really good introduction to the religion.

Anyone claiming to sell or offer "genuine Voodoo spells" without any religious background is most likely a scam artist.

Yes, you do have sorcerers (bokors) in Voodoo, but that's not the sum total of the religion. Keep in mind, too, that the culture that Voodoo comes out of it is unique, and so you have to approach it from that perspective rather than a subrurban American perspective, or a white-light Wiccan one.

But that's just my two cents, take it as you will.

Voodoo, or the practices of the Vodoun religion, calls to the ancestral spirits. As with all forms of magick, there must be energy given to the spell. This belief in the magick gives it a boost so that it can work.

While the movie voodoo might be cool, it's just Hollywood. There are limits on what you can do- you can't directly affect matter (like causing an object to fly), you can't raise the dead, etc. Also, like other forms of magick, it demands a great deal of respect. There is a lot of thought that has to go into things before you cast your spell. The biggest is "Can this harm anyone"? If the answer is "yes", in even the slightst way, then you'll get that negativity back with much more strength. Some say threefold, others tenfold.

Vodoun is normally praciticed by people of African descent, as it is a blend of African Tribal and Catholic belief.

Maybe you should ask if anyone's ever had voodoo spells placed on them and if so, did it work?!

I believe as several of the other respondants do. If you believe in something strong enough, it usually manifests in real life. If you think you are a loser, you aren't going to try to be successful, so you're going to keep being a loser.

What about people who take placebos instead of the real medication in medical trials? They 'think' they are taking the real medication, and often, they can have similar results as the ones taking the 'real' medication. Why? Because they believed it would work.

The mind is a complex thing.

It only works, if the one that the voodoo person is trying to cast the spell or whatever on, believes in it themselves.

Yes.But remember, what comes around goes around. If you do an evil spell on somebody, you'll attract negative energy.Don't waste your time and money on internet shysters, find somebody, preferably a real person, near you. BTW:I know someone who's really good if you're interested.

I don't know but I don't want to find out either. We do believe in the Father but we also know that the devil exist, so I will not try to find out if I was you, because the Lord doest want us to do something that will mess up with our minds. We need to keep our soul as safe as we can because this is the time for the bad guy to do his job.
But not for long though! ; o )
