Take him back to the ER and be very firm. Very polite, but very firm. You are not going to leave until a doctor not only looks at your child, but helps him. Just don't accept no for an answer.

Do they have a hospital in your area with a children's ER or, even better, a children's hospital? They will probably be more understanding of your situation then a regular ER would be, plus they have pediatricians on staff. If not, then, as a nurse, I would go back to the ER and get in the doctors face (and the nurses too, if need be) and tell them your not leaving until they can find out whats wrong with your son or can send you to a place that can. The ER staff tend to gloss over some things once the patient is out of immediate danger and send you on your way without the problem fixed. I wish you the best of luck and I hope you encounter someone more understanding next time you visit the ER.

Sometimes there are viruses or other ailments that doctors simply can't figure out fully or treat all the way. You can try to take him back to the ER or your doctor's office and have them try more things, but there's no guarantee. For now, the best thing you can do is try to keep your little one comfortable. Give him gatoade or pedialite, water, and jello if he'll take these things, and you can usually alternate with Tylenol and Motrin to help fight the fever. The main thing is to keep him hydrated. A fever develops in the body to fight the germs or virus that's invaded the system, and fevers can get up to 106 before doctors really need to intervene. You may need to force him to sip something every hour or half hour to ensure he's getting fluids. Keep him in comfortable clothes, don't try to "sweat it out" like our grandmas did! Give him a lukewarm bath if he's up to it, and let him rest as much as possible.

First of all, the jerk who posted above...knock it off. Why even post something boneheaded like that? You MUST be retarded.
THis has been such a terrible season for colds and the flu. I'm so sorry your son picked up one of the nastiest ones.
Keep taking him in. If you can take him into urgent care instead of the emergency room in the evenings, do that...it is much cheaper and they are just as well equipped.
If he will drink soda, give him soda, like ginger ale, Sprite or something like that. ANYTHING he will drink. Even Coke. If he will drink out of fun straws better, buy some of those fun straws that kids like so much. It is most important that he drinks something, more than eating a this point. The sugar in the drinks will help his energy a little bit...not the best way to get energy. But when they are sick, we have to break the rules a little bit.
Could you get a Frosty at Wendy's or a shake somewhere and spoon it to him? Ice cream has some calcium in it and he might take that. At this point with him being sick for so long, you can't be terribly picky at what he is taking in...as long he is taking in something.
Also, something to remember: a 102 temp for kids is not like a 102 temp for adults. I wouldn't start to panic until his temperature got up to 104-105. Keep putting a cold washcloth on his forehead and wiping his hands with it.
Good luck with everything.

I'm no MD, but sometimes they are stupid! All i can say is keep running back to the doctor. you will run into a doc that knows what he/she is talking bout. sometimes moms are the best doctor. i go to Kaiser and twice in my life i have been sick for two months, once in high school and once my first year in college. both times i was at the ER every night for a week and each day i had something different. the doctors even gave me medicine i was allergic to. When ever you see a change take your son back, they will get sick of you but its you money that pays there bills.... And pray!!!!

Has he been tested for RSV? A lot of the hospitals do not think to test for this, but it is very common in the winter months. It is not as severe in older infants, but can manifest symptoms like lethargy and refusal to eat because the baby is not able to breathe correctly. They may also have stomach upset and a high fever is very common. My nephew had this and was not diagnosed (even though he had several ER visits) until my son was diagnosed about 5 weeks later by a pediatrician.

first i would start by giving him gatorade or powerade they both have electrolites to help with dehydration plus its a treat so he might drink it
second of all i would start giving him tylenol and motrin together that what they told me to do at the ER with my son a while ago when he had a fever that wouldn't come down they have different active ingredients so you don't have to worry about giving too much motrin bc his fever isn't coming down
also with my son i had him sleep with me and i would wake up whenever he got too hot maternal instinct right??? and i would get a wet cloth and wipe him when he got warm i'd just wave it in the air for a few seconds and it would we cool enough to make a difference he didn't like it too much but i think he was too sick to care and it brought down his temp within a few mins
hoepfully there is sumthing he really enjoys that he'll eat even if hes sick but i would try getting the little mini yogurts they are sweet (my son loves them) and they have good bacteria to help incase it is a stomach virus plus he could feed himself they are soo small they don't make too big of a mess
good luck and if it gets much worse trust your instinct your his mother bring him in as many times as you have to they can be wrong the first time they took my sons temp at the ER they told me he didn't have a fever i made them take it again he was just sqirming trust your gut

my doctor suggests when my kids become sick like that the following.......childrens tylenol (works fast) then at the first sign of him becoming warm again then motrin (lasts longer ).
Other tips for lowering fever......luke warm water, soak cloth and place on forehead, under arms, groin area, behind knees.....if you start at the top leave it there for a minute, rinse in luke warm water and go to the next spot.....keep repeating.....it helps. Also you can try rubbing alcohol on a cotton ball and rub the bottoms of his feet. Make sure he has loose, light clothing on....at fourteen months he should be fine in a diaper unless it is cool in your home.
As for dehydration try juice, freezies there are freezies out there called pedialite which will rehydrate quickly., or if they are too expenseive or not available at your drug store you can also try popsicles.....frozen juice, ice cubes. If he has a hard time swallowing try giving him little bits of liquid in a dropper.
Just some ideas hope they help! Good luck and I hope he is feeling better soon!

Sorry to hear of your precios one being sick. Sounds like a stomach flu, bug, or could be very bad gas. Is there another hospital or clinic in the area you could get a second opinion? Does your Insurance company have 24 hour helpline to answer questions about situations like yours. Usually you can call and ask to speak with a nurse or doctor on duty and they will give you some imput of what is going on.

Is there yet another (distinctive) ER which you will circulate to as properly the two which you have stated? What some youngster's wellbeing middle or inner maximum wellbeing middle? Drugstores like Walmart and Walgreens PHARMACIES make suppositories of Tylenol which you delivers rectally. you ought to ask the pharmacist for them, they're over-the-counter drugs, they're in basic terms no longer out on the shelf. consistent with danger you ought to attempt this and circulate decrease back TO THE accepted practitioner. additionally attempt a million/2 Gatorade-a million/2 water as properly. while my son has had gastroenteritis, I additionally gave him the very bland animal crackers (without icing) now and returned that become all he ought to consume, via fact they actually have no style. i desire this and all the different solutions which you have have been given recieved have helped. sturdy good fortune.
