My female dog was accidentally mated earlier tonight (day 9 of season) but she is booked in for a routine health procedure tomorrow at the vets. Is it safe to procede or will the general anesthetic put the crucial early stages of cell division / formation of puppies at risk. I can't ask this question where I have booked my dog in as they operate a pro nuetering policy and I will get a very unhelpful response. I have not ever had a litter before.

I would not put a pregnant dog under unless I absolutely had to. Is the procedure neccessary or can it wait?

You can, of course, have her spayed.

I would NOT go to a place that would put their own political agenda above the well being of a dog!!!! I also would not go to a place where they didn't respect my decisions regarding my dogs!!!

i would of thought it is bad for poss pups. I think this would depend on the breed? If you did not want this litter, you can have (your dog of course) a injection 3 days after mateing and again 2 days after that. Maybe change vets if you are not happy.

She will be fine as will the babies should there be any. When the male ejaculates, the sperm attach themselves to wall of the uterus and wait for the eggs to become ready. After ovulation, the eggs take another 3-5 days to mature. The sperm then detach and go to work on creating life with the eggs. The sperm can remain alive for up to 12 days.

If you do not plan on breeding her, go ahead and have her spayed.
