Poor baby. If he is lethargic, return to the emergency room immediately. He needs more fluids.
While he has this fever, push fluids like pediasure. It has the electrolytes he needs to prevent dehydration. I wouldn't worry about eating so much as I would encouraging him to drink. Pediasure also comes in an ice pop version that he might enjoy. Dress him in light clothing, diaper and t-shirt only and give tepid baths. Don't let him get chilled while bathing.
It could be a viral syndrome, which cannot be treated by antibiotics. That can take a few weeks to clear up. However, it sounds like baby might have roseola, baby measles. It's symptoms are a high fever for about seven days. When it finally breaks he will likely get a fine pinkish rash.
My son had that at about the same age. His fever was 106! They thought I was reading the themometer incorrectly. They wanted to ice bathe him to bring it down when it reached the top of their themometers! I refused because it can destroy the ear drums to bring down a fever too rapidly. After a spinal tap, a heart ultrasound and 48 hours of standing on my feet putting cool compresses on his head in the hospital, the fever broke and the rash appeared. The said, "Oh, we don't see this much anymore, so we failed to make the diagnosis."
Remember, doctors are only PRACTICING medicine. INSIST on answers and return as much as you need to until he gets better. You might also suggest that they check his sinuses. Even at that early age he can suffer a sinus infection. Hope baby feels better soon.

Is there another (Different) ER that you can go to besides the 2 that you have mentioned? What about a children's hospital or private hospital? Drugstores like Walmart and Walgreens PHARMACIES make suppositories of Tylenol that you can give rectally. You have to ask the pharmacist for them, they are over the counter drugs, they're just not out on the shelf. Maybe you could try this and GO BACK TO THE DOCTOR. Also try 1/2 Gatorade-1/2 water as well. When my son has had gastroenteritis, I also gave him the very bland animal crackers (with no icing) sometimes that was all he could eat, because they really don't have any flavor. I hope this and all the other answers that you've recieved have helped. Good luck.

I would definitely bring him back in to the doc if you think he is dehydrated again. If not, Make sure to get him to take some fluids. Pedialyte popsicles are great for some kids. When my daughter was 9 months old she had a bad virus for 2 weeks. I gave her a dropper(like what comes with Motrin or Tylenol) full of Pedialyte every 15-20 mins. It doesn't sound like much fluid, but it kept her hydrated enough. Regarding the fever - How high is it? If it is really high , like above 104 or 105, I would bring him in to the doctor. If not, you can try alternating between Motrin and Tylenol. Do NOT give him a lukewarm or cool bath as it will cause him to shiver which elevates the body's temperature. Hopefully he feels better soon! As long as he doesn't get dehydrated I would wait a few more days then go back to his pediatrician if he is not improving. Viruses can last several weeks in young children. Good luck! Oh, another way to get some fluids in him is to soak a clean washcloth in water and let him suck on it. For some reason kids seem to like this.

First, alternate children's motrin with children's tylenol every 3 hours to get his fever down. This is what is causing the larthegy. Keep giving him fluids. If he has diarrhea then boil 1 cup of rice in 5 cups of water. Strain the rice and cool the rice water. Add 1/4th tablespoon of salt and enough Splenda to make it sweet so he'll drink it. It'll clear the diarrhea up.
My son is in the hospital right now cooperating from foot surgery. While I was outside smoking, a woman struck up a conversation with me and she told me that her 3 month old son was in there from a high fever and dehydration. The ran all sorts of tests, including a spinal tap and still couldn't figure out what was wrong. The doctor told her that her son was the 4th one in there this year presenting the same symptoms and they never could figure out what was wrong. She was going to take him to the children's hospital. Taking him to a regular ER probably isn't going to help. They treat the symptoms and offer a basic diagnoses. Take him to a children's hospital instead of a regular hospital if you decide to take him back. Good luck with him.

The best thing you could do is to keep giving him fluids like pedialite in small doses. Use a tablespoon and give it to him every 20 to 40 minutes. If you give him large amounts, his stomach can't take it so that is why he keeps throwing up. Try popsicles, anything frozen with juice in it. That is the best you can do while at home. Make sure you keep a close eye on his tempurature and go back to the ER if you are worried. He will bounce back once that stomach virus has passed. So mainly, hydrate. Popsicles always worked with my children.

How about taking him to an ENT (ear, nose, and throat) doctor. They will be able to determine if he has inner ear infections or throat problems. Also, if his throat hurts he isn't going to want to swallow. Pedialyte tastes horrible although most recommend it. Give him gatorade ; it is better than nothing and at least has some potassium in it. It also tastes better so he might be inclined to drink it so he won't get dehydrated. As for the tylenol. Just put it in a dropper and point the dropper toward the sides of his cheeks but near the gumline and squeeze a few drops. He will have to swallow.
Offer him some popsicles from time to time to help keep fluids in him. If his throat is sore and his nose is stuffy then his appetite isn't going to be good at all.
Have you tried some of the decongestants/sore throat meds for kids?
As for the E.R. ...well, you will get stuck with whatever intern is on shift on any given night. Try again you may get a better doctor or try another pediatrician.

It might be a stomach virus like Rotovirus my son had that once and he had a fever and vomiting/diarrhea for almost a week and refused to eat/drink. I would take him back and DEMAND they find something and run tests! You are his mother and you know when your child is not well. The ER can pass over things take him to a regular pediatrician and tell them you want a diagnosis and if you don't get one take him to another doctor until you find out. Good luck to you and he will be okay just find the right dr

for the temp, try an ice pack. you can cut the back of an old teddy bear open, pull out some stuffing, and put it in there so he will cuddle with it.
try giving him ice chips to suck on.
If he has a favorite drink, let him have it, even if its chocolate milk, just so he has some fluids in him.
if the doc's end up giving him IV fluids again, right away start him on drinking something like pedilyte, the juice that is made for little kids who are sick. if you start him asap when he is feeling better, it may stave off the dehydration.
also, try popsicles. again, not very nurishing, but hsould help.
I hope at least one of these things help, and i am soo sorry about your little boy. I hope he gets better soon!!!

I'm so sorry to hear about your son. Take him back to the ER so he can get the fluids he needs and later take him to his regular pediatrician. My son suffered from fevers when he was a little boy and my doctor told me to give him advil and switch him to motrin after three hours and back to advil after three hours, etc. since the active ingredient was different in each one, there was no fear of overdosing (but ask your son's doctor before trying this as each child is different). it worked great for us.
do the BRAT diet and give him pedyalite. I've even tried popsicles when my son was especially resistant to other fluids (again the advice of his doctor)
Good luck and god bless!

i'd try the er again just go get the fluids back in him. don't give him any milk cuz with fever it makes it curdle in the stomache which will make him get sick. also only pedialite. it'll help alot. m neice got really sick back when she was probably around 10 or 11 months and we gave her only pedialite and th B.R.A.T diet. Bananas Rice Apples Toast. We fed her that for like 4 days. The first day she wouldn't eat at all. I hope he gets well and I'm sorry I couldn't be of more help. Also try baby tylenol sometimes it helps to switch up the meds.
