I know it's a phrase used for when your surprised or frightened, but can your heart literally and physically skip a beat? Or would this cause a heart attack and you'd die?

Yes, hearts can skip beats, I think it's called heart palpitations. Your heart skipping one beat couldn't kill you. Heart attacks are caused by things that are totally different. Heart attacks are usually caused by heart blockages or disturbances in you electrophysiological component of the heart or even electrolyte imbalances in your blood.

Sure, your heart can and does skip a beat and you go on living. In fact, most everyone have skipped beats in a 24hr period. It tends to happen more in the elderly, but kids have it also.

You get a heart attack when the vessel feeding the heart muscle gets blocked and the heart muscle dies.

Your heart cannot skip a beat,they are called heart palpitations.Medications,caffeine and heart problems may cause that ,see your doctor ASAP when this occurs.
