Most cops will give you up to five mph over the limit without pulling you over, with certain exceptions, such as schools zones, where there is very little discretion. But you should drive the limit no matter what, please, for everyone's safety.

Anything above 5 over the limit, and most police officers will pull you over. This really depends on the individual, some may allow you 10 mph over the limit.

If a cop pulls me over for doing 36? in a darn 35 I can tell you even if you think I am bluffing It was not on purpose, your speed meter can be off a few, ya know? EVEN if its a brand new car. Besides, Even if popo's on here try to deny it, there is a quota and a bonus, at least in the great state of *burp* Mississippi. I've made friends with a lot of cops because I work as a security guard at a local bar. I even went to the academy and was going to join up, I know this is off subject but I just want all you cops to read it, I did join not join because the more I got to really know local cops personally, I think cops are the most dangerous and disgusting power tripping DORKS of the world. There are a few that put there life on the line for the correct reason, Like when someone attempted to break into or home, and we called 911, I was VERY thankful for the one that came, But most are complete jerks that treat people like crap if you even ASK them a question or for help, ISN'T THAT WHAT YOU ARE THERE FOR? PROTECT AND SERVE? But it does not bother me anymore as it used too, I have the money to fight the law even if my rights are violated due to police misconduct. Keep thriving on peoples fear with your intimidation tactics. We shall all meet by and by.... Judgment Day. PS... I don't have anything to hide, I just don't consent to any searches sweetie, *wink*

For the record...it is called a speed LIMIT....not a speed starting point. But our agency gives 10 over before we issue a citation. We give leeway in case YOUR speedometer is off. You can be pulled over for one mile per hour over.....but the tickets dont start til 10.

Usually, cops will let 5 mph pass without a second glance. Its just not worth their time to pull everyone over that goes 5 over. Once you start going 10 and over, you are starting to ask for trouble.

Less than 10mph over the speed limit on the hwy and troopers will leave you alone, but in the city, if it's 5mph or more over the posted limit, I will pull you over. It's just too dangerous on the city streets.

Ummmmmmmm..................by definition, the margin is zero miles per hour above the speed limit. So don't complain when a cop pulls you over and gives you a ticket for driving at 36 miles per hour in a 35 miles per hour zone.

What part of "speed LIMIT" do you not understand?
If you obeyed the speed limit, you wouldn't have to worry about getting a ticket, now would you?

My rule of thumb is 9 miles. I'm on the turnpike a lot and set my cruise control between 8 and 9 miles over. I never got stopped yet, but who knows. Mothers in mini-vans probably don't get stopped much anyway!
