Hi Craig...the amount fed daily should not only based on age, but also activity level and the type of food fed. Each dry food package has a recommended portion on the back listed to help determine the proper amount to serve.

I feed my one year old cat 1/2 cup dry food for breakfast. Leave the dry food out all day for snacking. At dinner time, I do 1/4 of a 5.5 ounce can of cat food. You can feed additional treats for rewards during the day! Guaranteed to make a happy kitty!!

The raw food diet is the best diet for dogs and cats. Its natural, and has natural enzymes. In canned and dry food they bake all the nutrients out of the food. Its like eating McDonalds everyday. Just think of animals in the wild, do they buy dry or canned food? No. So think the same with domesticated animals. They may be domesticated but that doesnt make any difference with their food. A good book to read is Natural Nutrition for Dogs and Cats The Ultimate Diet by Kymythy R. Schultze C.C.N, A.H.I. The book explains more about the raw diet, but still look into it! Hope that helps!

I always have dry foods out for my cats and every morning put about 2 tbsp. of fresh canned food out in their dish. I keep giving it throughout the day. Sometimes they eat all of the wet food and most of the time I will throw some of it away and give fresh (you see I have a VERY spoiled male cat) My little female eats mostly dry food but she likes fresh wet food each AM also. They always have food available. A 3 yr old that is not overweight or diabetic should at least have dry food available at all times.

1 x 5.5 oz can of wet canned food and half a cup of dry kibble a day sounds about right. If your cat is somewhat fat, ease down on the dry food since it contains more calories than wet.
