I have short, layered hair & even when it was longer it was always thin & limp. I tried a lot of different volumizers, tested out the waters, & found my favorite to be this Garnier Fructise Volume Inject Mousse. Unlike the other products I tried ( big sexy hair, got2b, etc)... it holds the volume all day, it doesn't leave stickiness & goopy stuff in my roots, & it doesn't fry my hair.
If you don;'t want to buy a product then make a habbit of blowdrying your hair holding your head upside down. Don't comb it while you do it or brush since this will defeat the purpose of blowdrying it upside down in the first place. Throughout the day if I get particularly windblown/ feel the need to add even more volume I spray some John Frieda sheer blonde, "full-blown blonde" volumizing spray to the underside of my hair & throughout my "doo" & I blowdry it again & brush out and hardness left by the product.

Don't be afraid to try out different products until you find the one right for you.

If you have thicker hair you might want to try razor cut and choppy but if you have finer hair and maybe don't like the razor I would just tell your stylist you want layers, lots and lots of layers.

When I'm unsure of what I want I just tell the stylist to be creative and have them come up with something that will give me volume and something totally different from what I already have!
