Avant is an IE shell. It use to have features IE didn't, like Tabbed browsing. Since IE 7 came out, Avant and Internet Exploer are basicly the same thing. Firefox is smaller, faster, takes less resources, and is more secure than IE. Opera is faster, smaller, and takes less resources than Firefox, but doesn't have as many features as Firefox.

I haven't ever used Avant and haven't used Opera for years. As far as I know the free version has ads and the paid for one doesn't. I primarily use Firefox, it seems to be at least a bit more secure than IE7 but that could be because it's more popular and therefore its exploits are found and exploited more often. It also uses less resources. However IE has improved a lot since 7 since it now finally supports tabs and seems to have added security.

I have used the Mozilla Firefox 2 since it was in beta. I have had no problems with it and its pretty fast as far as loading up. I have a Dell laptop with DSL broadband. Its also a little more secure than Internet Explorer (so I've heard!) I would be glad to recommend it to you!
