My niece is getting married in May and the groom to be says he wants to wear a suit instead of a tux since he is a professional musician and wears one almost every weekend while playing at weddings. My parents are flipping out over this saying it shows ..lack of respect.. the bride will wear a gown how will it look... they are embarassed what will the relatives say. I told them I was sure it will be a nice suit, probablly new, they think they will be plaids (groom and ushers) I think they think this is a clown wedding! What can I do so they won't ruin my neices' day!

It is the bride and groom's day. I just got married a couple months ago and we kinda went against tradition. My husband didn't want a tux either. Instead we went to After Hours formal wear and all the guys wore suits. A tux bascially means that there is satin on the lapels versus the material of the rest of the "suit." They wore the vest and the tie and the shiney shoes and no one thought any different. It doesn't have to be extravegant to be elegant!!! I have pictures on my profile from my wedding, and you can't tell it's not a tux. People that go to a wedding are there because they care about the couple and want to share in their day. My wedding wasn't this elaborate production, it was a very simple and romantic ceremony. People will remember the atomosphere and the love and not if the groom wore a tux or suit or a jacket or tails. Let the groom be comfortable in what he wears, it is his and his bride's day afterall!!!

Best of luck to them.

Oh, goodness, that is going to be a funny looking wedding party!!! Plaid???

I think the groom should be in a tux, especially if she's in a gown. He wears them all the time, he can suck it up for one more day in order to show the proper respect that such a formal and important day requires.

I highly applaud that you don't want them to ruin your neice's day. Just try to calm them down and say that everything will be fine. It's the meaning of the day that really matters, not the clothes. Have them pull out their own wedding albums and look at how funny some of them look in their ruffled tuxes. That kind of thing.

Well first of all it's very sweet that you are so concerned about your neices' wedding. I would first see how your neice feels about the situation? Is she aware of what her grandparents think? What does she think about it? It's their wedding, let your parent's know times have changed! Although I am confused as to why the groom would want to wear a suit he wears every weekend, especially since in most cases the grooms tux is free! Maybe tell a little fib to your parents and explain that he "bought the suit for this occasion". may make them feel better and it may be easier on your neice!

He should still wear a tux, but let him pick one that he hasn't worn at one of his "gigs". Maybe something all white with plaid cumberbund to match the groom & ushers if that is what is decided. There are some really over-the-top tuxes out there that I am sure he has not worn before.

well here in scotland, the grooms traditionally wear the kilt.they choose either a tartan that matches the wedding colours or the family tartan.men don't have to wear the kilt and many choose to wear an ordinary suit.I've never been to a wedding where they have worn a tux (a diner suit in or language!)that would be considered too formal.they should wear what ever they want,it's their wedding and if others don't like it, tough, they know what they can do!good luck.

Tell your parents the groom listened to their comments and decided to wear a baby blue crushed velvet tuxedo w/a white ruffled collared silk shirt. Hey your parents should be happy, at least he decided to wear a tux.

As long as the bride and groom are happy with the arrangement let them be.......it is their day!

Another alternate suggestion to tux and suite......what about kilts.....Love em.....look awsome and it takes care of his wanting something different!

Grooms placed on black because adult males have conservative flavor in outfits, and do not favor to placed on something too appreciably distinct from what they placed on each day. also, contained in the West besides, black is the color of skill and authority. [!] perchance it truly is to stability out the actual incontrovertible fact that the marriage ceremony is the Bride's area. i favor to be certain a groom in colors except black; evidently tremendous. yet black is high-quality too.

remind them its not about what you wear but about the commitment , they will say "exactly and look what his wearing", to which would respond with yes because when he is with her it doesn't feel like work and remind her of the fact it is about the bride and Groom promising there there lives together they are whats important
