I just heard that Jews and some Christians believe this theory. With our current science we know that stars are over 6,000 lightyears away but we can still see them. So, with common sense we can tell that the world is over 6,000 at least or there would be no stars in the sky.

I have heard Baaaahhhhhptists say it, but only because they are interpreting the bible to account for every human ever born. Neat trick if you can do it. Now as for Jews, none that I know think that way, and that includes my grandparent.s.

People who take the Bible literally believe that the earth is approx. 6,000 years old. Either the Bible is false, and/or God is a liar or it is true....and we live on a young earth. Have you ever considered that maybe the universe is much older than the earth, which could explain why we see stars. Stars could have been in the universe for millions of years, without the earth being there. Of course, that doesn't really jive with the 6 days of creation.....so, you can decided if you want to believe men/scientists or if you want to believe the Bible/God.

Yes, people believe the earth is actually 6,000 years old.

You think that is bad? 'scripturecatholic.com' promotes the believe that the sun revolves around the earth, which does not rotate.

Up until the late 90's, there was a group called the "Flat Earth Society" - and no, it wasn't a joke either. When the group's president died, many members joined the Institute for Creation Research.

Supposedly, God created the light in mid-flight from the Andromeda galaxy. If you ask one WHY god would do this, they say they don't know and who are you to question His Divine Plan?!? Or, all galaxies are secretly within 6,000 ly and there is a massive global conspiracy among all astronomers to hide the truth, all of whom are secretly servants of Satan, much like everyone else who tries to argue with them using evidence and logic.

Needless to say, these people are rather difficult to argue with. Its a bit like trying to teach a pig to sing; it won't work, and it annoys the pig.

Peace out.

The other night my daughter told me that her cousin told her the earth was about 12,000 years old. I don't know where that number came from as the most oft quoted (at least here) is about 6,000.

Yes, roughly 6-10 thousand years old. First, when you say that their are stars farther than 6,000 light-years, you automatically assume that the speed of light is a constant, when it is not. It can be sped up alot more than we think. But i guess some people ignore the science that contradicts silly evolution theories.

Yes, some really do. I am one of them. But you should also ask according to whose clock?
Recent findings show that time has physical properties. It can be compressed or stretched and the speed of light is not a constant. Therefore the earth could be 6000 years old, or muuuuuch older depending on how you would want to measure it.

I believe that there has simply been a discrepancy in time. perhaps in Genesis when it was described that God made the earth in 6 "days" He did. But maybe one of Gods days were a million years compared to our day being 24 hours.

Sadly, yes there are. Which just goes to prove that humanity is less affected by natural selection than other animals.
