You need to eat more fatty foods, carbs, starches. stuff like that.
So, to put it as simply as possible,

(here is the website I got this from)

http://www.intense-workout.com/weight_gain.html

there are 5 simple steps to how to gain weight, and here they are:

1) Count how many calories you eat in a normal day. Don't change anything, just eat like you normally would and count how many calories you consumed. This is an extremely important step, so try to be as exact as possible. Also, weigh yourself.

2) Starting the day after you counted calories, eat 500 calories MORE then you normally do. So, lets pretend that the day you counted calories you counted 2000. For the rest of the week, you would now eat 2500 calories a day. Instead of eating 3 big meals a day or eating all day all the time, spread those calories out over 5-6 smaller meals. Eat one meal every 2 and a half to 3 hours. To get big, you have to eat big! Remember that.

3) Weightlifting! Get in the gym and lift! This is another important step to how to gain weight, so make sure you are doing it correctly. For more information on weightlifting workout routines and splits, read the workout routines and splits section.

4) At the end of that week, weigh yourself. You'll notice you're gaining just after one week! Now, don't expect to see a 10lb increase. Gaining anymore then 1 or 2 pounds a week is unhealthy and means you're putting on way to much fat. So look for 1 or 2 pound gains at the end of the week. Don't sound like much? You can be gaining 5-8 pounds a month!

5) Heres an important one. At some point, you will stop seeing weight gain. At this point, you will have to eat even more. So, when you stop gaining for at least 2 weeks, it means it is time to start eating an extra 250 calories a day. Every time you see you haven't gained weight for at least 2 weeks, add an extra 250 calories.

Take it from a former soldier who was once underweight. I was 5'10 at maybe 120 lbs. I looked sick. I ate all the time and nothing happened.

After eating and lifting I'm now at 162lbs.

Step one: try to minimize calisthenic activities i.e. Running, jump rope, jumping jacks (side straddle hops), speed walking.
Anything that raises your heart rate and causes you to breathe heavily.

Step two: Eat, Eat, Eat. Even when your not hungry eat at least a small snack. When I was gaining I was eating 8 times a day.
A full breakfast
a snack ( half or whole sandwich)
A full lunch
Snack
A full dinner
then just before you fall asleep eat something small again

Step 3: When you start to gain weight like this your going to feel it, you will notice most when you try to walk up stairs or uphill. Your body is going to increase in mass quickly so to minimize stretch marks I used cocoa butter lotion. Keep your body hydrated, it will keep from causing those stretch marks.

step 4: Watch your weight! when you get to a weight you are comfortable with use this regimen for maybe 2 more weeks until your over your comfortable weight. Then begin normal calisthenic programs again, this will tone up your body at the weight you want.

Hope that helps.

The most important thing you don't want to do is eat a bunch of junk food and candy and put weight on that way. 40lbs like that is putting you at serious risk for diabetes and other potentially life threatening issues. Pasta, cheese, bread, and stuff like that would be much more healthy and will help you put some meat on those bones. Another thing is to make sure you eat 3 meals a day. Don't skip breakfast or anything.

Also, as long as you feel good don't worry to much about being thin or anything. Other peoples opinions will never be good enough. It's your opinion that counts.

Eat 3 larger meals a day rather than lots of small meals and a lot of snacks. Eat right before you sleep (your metabolism slows down to half of what it is when you're awake), and during the day eat foods high in protein , [good] fat, and fiber (whole wheat stuff, etc.) and carbs, but try not to have sugar as a source of carbs. Stay sway from caffeine (especially energy drinks) and don't eat any kinds of diet foods (low fat, low carb, etc.)

That's the healthier way to do it, but if it doesn't work than what really will is to stop most exercise until you gain weight. I mean you should do yoga and other slow exercises meant to build muscle rather than burn fat, but if you stop things like running, walking a lot, aerobic exercise, sports, etc. and eat as much as you say you do (or more), then you should gain weight pretty quickly.

Go to the doctor, you may have some problem that doesn't allow you to gain weight like everyone else. Otherwise find the most fattening foods possible and eat them every minute. Especially around people so they won't think you're anorexic.

I'm 17, 5'2,97 pounds,eh,your pretty tall,for your weight,just use this and it'll probably work out for you.

STEP 1: Eat nutritious foods that are high in calories. Examples are whole-grain breads, vegetables such as avocados and potatoes, kidney beans, lean red meat, poultry and fish.
STEP 2: Increase the caloric value of your meals. Add powdered milk to casseroles for added calories, add avocados and olives to sandwiches, add wheat germ to your cereal, add chopped meat to your pasta sauce, and so on.
STEP 3: Avoid skipping meals. Eat three meals a day and at least two snacks.
STEP 4: Increase your normal portion size. Take a second scoop of pasta, or add two bananas to your oatmeal.
STEP 5: Choose higher-calorie foods when given a choice. For example, corn is higher in calories than green beans.
STEP 6: Relax - excessive fidgeting and restlessness can burn up a lot of calories.
STEP 7: Add weight lifting to your exercise program. It helps build muscle mass.
STEP 8: Balance your caloric intake with the number of calories you're burning. You need to be taking in more than you use up, and you may need to ease up a little on your exercise program.

Try exercising and gaining muscle. You want to be fit, but look non anorexic. Eat carbs, fruit, and veggies. Eat all your requirements from the food pyramid and excercise. Muscle weighs more than fat and you will look good with muscle rather than flab.

Enjoy it now because when you get older, the weight comes on easily and it's hard to get rid of.
Look at your family line; if one of your parents are lean and slim, you probably will be too. And you can always go into modeling and make the other girls jealous by eating pizza, cookies and ice cream!

See a nutritionist if this really bothers you.
