You have no legal or moral responsibility. The parents have sole responsibility. Anything you wish to help with should be considered a blessing. Don't say yes out of guilt, if you really don't feel up to it. That is not fair to the child, as children can feel resentment.

No being a God mother does not mean babysitting. As a God parent your ONLY duty is to be sure that the child is raised according to whatever faith your friends are. (IF they are THAT faithful), other than that there really are NO duties except "self imposed' such as a "special" friendship with the child. I've been sending both of my God daughter's birthday gifts since they were babies. And it is nice if something comes up and the parents have to leave the children in the care of someone else you volunteered your services. But you don't have to.

In the Catholic church the Godmother's responsibility is to ensure the Godchild is preferably enrolled in Catholic school, goes to Mass every Sunday and whatever else the Godmother feels is necessary for the religious upbringing of the Godchild. The Godmother will attend The First Communion.

You should ask the parents. Being a godparent in some cultures means that if anything happens to the parent - you take over. In other situations - it just means that if anything happens to the parents - that you make sure the child is brought up with the religious/spiritual beliefs of the parents choice. And in other circumstances - you are just there the day of the Baptism - and you send presents on holidays. It could mean so many different things. ASK THE PARENTS - just tell them you want to know what is expected of you so you can carry through on it!

No, it does not include babysitting. A godparent by defination is someone who takes over the religious upbringing if the parents can't do it but since it's not a legal issue, most of the times whoever raises the child (if the parents can't) has total control over any religious upbringing as well.
A godparent has no legal responsibility (unless he or she was made a legal guardian),

I am my 3 year old nephew's godmother. I hang out with him often so he feels comfortable being with me. I offer to babysit or take him places but I also don't feel bad if I am unable to babysit him. Your only responsibility as a godmother is to help guide him in his faith. Any extra time or money spent is a bonus for the both of you.

Hell No! ofcourse you would want to babysit him to get that bond but as far as constantly I dont think so. To my understanding of being a god parent is this, what the parent cant do for the child u are next in line. But who's to say that u have it when they dont?but my main knowledge is based on the original parents death. Once the parent/parents die then again u are next in line but this time for good.

God parents mean crap now. 100 years ago when parents usually died young they were supposed to care for the child . Its just a religious thing that they still carry over but is not the thing that happens now. I have a god son who hasn't thanked me in 20 years for xmas or birthday money I have sent him. God parents mean nothing to the child anymore. You just have to buy the outfit for that day , thats about it in a nutshell.
