Can you substitute them for one another?

One cake recipe calls for cake flour and the other one calls for self rising flour and I am making both of them for a birthday party.

Self rising flour has baking powder and salt in it. Cake flour is a "softer" (lighter) flour used when you want a softer texture in a baked good. They aren't interchangable.

No c ake flour is lighter and produces a lighter texture, yu can use self rising flour in cakes though. It is hard to find cake flour though I have seen it in Ablertsons.

Self-rising has the salt and baking soda, for a more "lighter" product.

Cake flour has more cornstarch, for a denser product.

they're not the same, but in most cases, you are able to substitute, it really depends on what you're making
