I had a high risk pregnancy due to proteinuria. They thought this could be due to an underlying kidney problem. Now that I've had my baby and am following up on this, they might want to do a kidney biopsy due to the fact they couldn't while I was pregnant. I haven't found out for sure yet but just wanted to know if it hurts or what its like? Thanks

yea i have..the only thing that hurts is when they numb the area. my doctor that did it said it feels like a bee sting (i have never been stung by a bee before) the pain only lasts for less than 30 seconds. it does not hurt when they actually get the biopsy. you might have a little pain and bruising afterwards but its not bad. i would compare the pain to just being hit hard by someone

it took them more time to prep me for it and find the kidney they wanted to use than it did for the actual biopsy. you will probably stay in the hospital for 4 or 5 hours as an out patient just so they can monitor you. they will probably give you a pill that relaxes you before you have the biopsy too. it is a long and boring day believe me

I had a liver biopsy, kinda the same thing. The doc pokes a little hole in your skin, then takes a snip of tissue, its over in about 7 mins and I never even kenw the thing was inside me.
Test came out ok, I still have my liver and a clean report.

I couldn't just sit around and do nothing like my doctors suggested.

They didn't want me to do anything or to take herbs or herbal remedies, but I had to try something - they just wanted me to do dialysis!

This program allowed me to take control of my health. I went from Stage 4 to Stage 3 kidney disease.

It was easy to do and my BUN, creatinine and anemia are all in better ranges.

My daughter had one done when she was 19 yrs old. And she was scared and heard many horror stories like you did. She was surprised..........it wasn't bad at all she said.
