Religions are divisive, spirituality unites.

We will have more peace when people feel safe. As divisive as religion can be, it can also be pacifying. I think we would do better if our leaders and media weren't using rabble rousing techniques to make it super divisive.

Peace!

It has been tried before without success. During the French Revolution they tried to set up an Atheist state, banned religion, and set up the worship of human reason as a new religion. It resulted in a reign of terror in which many innocent people were killed. Communist Russia was also an Atheist state, and we all know about the purges and the gulags. Pol Pot tried to set up the perfect society in Cambodia without religion, and it resulted in the killing fields. Religion does cause problems, but the lack of religion does too.

No, because people are people and war springs from very complex causes.

However, if religion were to go away and become seen as some archaic superstitious belief (like we think of the Greek gods, these days), people would perhaps think more rationally and more critically.

I'd rather have a person disagree with me who uses the best available evidence to reach their conclusion than world peace.

I dont think so. Because many of the conflicts today are also due to cultural conflicts over land. Sure religion would drop a significant amount of violence out of the general picture but violence would still be prevalent in a non-god fearing world. Societal Disfunction will plague most societies and nothing would go right due to the lack of fear in god and his punishment. Religion has usually been the prime excuse throughout history for Kings who wanted to invade other lands. So i dont think dumping religion would make the world a better place although it would get rid of many conflicts peace would not prevail everwhere.

Probably not. Men will always come up with new ways to control other men. Religion, for the most part, is a more benign kind of control, so maybe it represents the lesser of all evils. Political differences contribute to war as much as religious differences. There are always reasons to hate.

One thing religion does is not "create" something, but point out something. Religion helps us realize that even without "religion" people would still find things to fight about. Evil is in the heart of man- religion only helps point it out.

Yes.
NO RELIGION..

no Hitler therefore no HOLOCAUST.
no WAR IN IRAQ - SHIATS AND SUNNIs..
i can go on and on.

There would be MUCH more peace without religion.
Can't men just erase the religious boundaries, join forces, and make mankind better than ever!?

MEN did everything.
not some man living in the clouds.
WE did it.
not "them"

and if we try our best, we can make "heaven" right here on earth.

I wouldn't think so, since most wars are fought over resources. Religion is just an effective tool to whip up support for what ever the kleptocracy has decided to fight about.
