Is it bad to give your cat treats every day? I do. Does it make them fat? Mine is about 17 pounds right now. Is that overweight for a cat? HELP!

I have 17 cats, and they get three treats each every day, only 4 are overweight, but that's because they gorge on dry food and prefer a nice warm lap over romping with the rest. But, they started gaining weight after they were fixed.

17 pounds is heavy, unless you have a large breed, such as a Maine Coon. As another poster mentioned, your cat will probably hate you if you stop giving her treats. Try gradually reducing the number that you give. If you use the soft treats, break them into 2 pieces. You could also try giving her some of her regular kibble as a treat. This works with my cat (but she's not that bright). Also, how much food does your cat eat each day. Maybe you need to cut back on her food or switch to a "diet" formula.

No, it's not bad to give your cat treats every day. I give mine treats every day. & does it make them fat? Not necessaraly. Is your cat an indoor kitty? Does she free feed (do you put food out for your cat & she eats when she wants)? Do you feed her people food? Stuff like that can cause your cat to gain weight. 17 pounds? Technacally, that is overweight for a cat but I wouldn't worry too much about it. I hope this helps. :-)

Depends on the type of cat. My kitten is a medium size cat and should only get to be about 11 or 12 pounds. Anyways, treats are not bad, in fact a lot have extra ingredients to help your cat with their health needs, but you should not exceed 8 treats in a 24 hour period.

I really don't think it's bad to give them every day. You can buy good quality treats, like Greenies for cats as well as dogs. My male cat would eat the treats continually if I would let him,and my little female eats only a couple a day.

I stopped giving my cat treats after he turned 5. Your kitty is somewhat over-weight. Mine was 15 lbs last time we went to the vet (6 months ago) and the vet told me that my cat is a bit overweight and needs to shed a couple of pounds.

You can give your cat cat treats every now and then but giving your cat way too many treats a day probally can cause increase of weight. or mabe try some low fat treats or healthy treats for your cat.

I give our cat "treats" every day - bits of LEAN meat or fish from the table. Just don't feed your cat the fatty, ash-laden "rendered" (look it up) garbage the manufacturers sell commercially. Good nutrition for your cat is as important for it, as good nutrition is for you. For instance, tonight Frisky got to lick the bowl after I had finished making fat-free feta cheese and spinach stuffing for the salmon I made for my wife and I. I didn't know if he'd eat it or not. He cleaned the bowl. I'm a heart patient and I'm also diabetic, so what I make is healthy. Frisky eats like a king, and he weighs in at a lean 10 pounds. Enjoy.
