Absolutely not, but people do it all the time strictly for their convenience. Puppies removed from their mothers younger than 8 wks. do not get the necessary nurturing from the mother. Nor do they get the immunity from infectious diseases, etc. that is in mom's milk. Pups removed before 8 wks. are more apt to have health and behavioral problems.
And to you Tom - why do you do the separating? Don't you think the mother is a better judge of that? Some people are so ignorant....

It's possible to take a puppy away from it's mother at less than an hour old, but does that make it a good idea? Didn't think so.
Wait the extra three weeks, it's not so bad.
And to be a bit more blunt, bad idea to take a puppy that young away from it's mother.

While you could, it is not a good idea. The puppy is still learning socialization and needs the nourishment from the Mother. I don't know why you are considering it but choose to be responsible and wait the few extra weeks. It will be worth the wait.

Yes but it's a bad idea because you will end up with behavior problems. Puppies need to stay with their mothers till 8 weeks.

There are reasons that puppies in most states are not allowed to be sold until six weeks of age. There is much a puppy gets from interaction with its mother and litter mates besides milk. Puppies need to learn things like social interaction and bite inhibition. It is unhealthy ohysically and mentally for a pup to be seperated from its mother before six weeks and in ideal situations eight weeks of age.

Puppies shouldn't be taken any earlier than eight weeks of age. It's not only about nutrition, they need to learn social skills...being with their dam and littermates.

Yes,,, we always separate the litter from their mother @ 5 weeks (but keep the puppy's together until 8 weeks)
Separating a puppy from the litter completely @ 5 weeks is just asking for socialization problems, usually with the result of a "dog aggressive" pet to deal with.

No wait atleast 8. You'll have feeding problems, they'll be malnourished and that's just mean!
What if you had to leave your mom at 12?
