Everyone is entitled to a free annual credit report, from Annual Credit Report.com. I think one can only get the free credit report when the state where you live is available for the free report.
The program was rolled out state-by-state.

This might not be terribly helpful, but I ended up with a free copy of my credit report when I went to my bank to apply for a loan, and I was turned down!

You might be able to ask the loan department of your bank for one.

I signed up for Triple Advantage credit monitoring on Freecreditreport.com, and got a "free" credit report that way. It doesn't hurt to have credit monitoring!

www.annualcreditreport.com

This site allows you one copy of your credit report from each of the three credit bureaus per year. Your best bet is to get one every 4 months...this allows you to monitor your credit without having to wait an entire year. It is completely free and there is no spam involved. I've used them for 2 years now.

Good luck!

www.annualcreditreport.com - truly free, they don't ask you for your credit card # so you are definitely not getting charged. I already got the report twice (once per year) and they get reports from all 3 credit bureaus.

Anyone who says anything other than
http://www.annualcreditreport.com
is wrong.

By law, the top three reporting agencies have to provide you with one free report per year. This site gets reports from all three, and doesn't require that you pay or sign up for anything.

This is the ONLY site that does this.

annualcreditreport.com

It is totally free. You need to get one from all three of the major credit reporting agencies...Equifax, Experian and TransUnion. That website lets you get one from each.
