It really depends on the amount of stuff you stole.
Obviously if you got caught stealing something over the FELONY limit (about $300.00) your charges will be more severe and the penalites will be worse.
If your crime was less than that, you will probably have to do some community service or pay a small fine.
Too bad you werent caught stealing in Kentucky you would have had to write an apology letter to the store.
Anywhoo,
I would guess EVERYONE has shoplifted something once in their lives...so forgive yourself for the offense and vow to never do it again. The next step would be to apologize to your parents.
They are probably thinking that THEY have failed you in some way. Assure them that such is not the case and that you will work very hard to regain their trust! They will also probably have to take off of work or otherwise be inconvienced to take you to your court hearing. Apologize for this as well.
IT is not the end of the world and as such they will forgive you in short order.

If you can keep your record clean for two years, make sure you go and petition the court to expunge this record
Lastly, do not discuss this with anyone at your school who does not already know about it.
NO ONE!
girls can be so flakey, that they will use it against you at some point if you ever get into a fight with them so PLEASE resist the urge to discuss it!
Lastly, do not go into the store where the incident occured. They might charge you with tresspassing (or the equivalent charge in your state) and it would be extremely embarrassing to be escorted from the store AGAIN
p.s. NO they wont charge you as an adult, because you are not one!

First offense there stickyfingers? Probation...accelerated rehabilitation maybe. You may get off light this time. in the future, try to control your thieving urges okay? Its frowned upon by the good people of society.

well in ohio you would go to juvie court. the judge decides what to do with you, be it DH, fines, community service, probation or all of the above. dont do it anymore. because when you turn 18 stuff gets real. you go to jail if you get caught and face jailtime.
