I adopted (well, more like bought) a 5 month old beagle a couple weeks ago from a woman, but she has failed to provide me with a vaccination record for the pup, which she "claims" to have. She had also claimed to purchase the pup from a pet store. She had said that the puppy was up to date on all her shots, but we don't have proof. We want to get her spayed, but they would like us to provide a vaccination record. How harmful would it be to the puppy if she were to be vaccinated again for all the so-called vaccinations she supposedly already had? Including the rabies vaccination. Trying to get those records may be a lost cause already.

!!!!!!!!!!!!!! TITER TEST, TITER TEST, TITER TEST!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Is the only safe way to go. It's cost can range from $50-$100 depending on your vet. Don't believe people who say its okay to over vaccinate, they probably don't know about the Titer test, and while your there have your vet run a base blood sample to keep on file, for comparision if future problems arise.
Hey thanks for asking, I hope others learn from your question.

A titer test for antibodies could tell if your beagle has had her vaccinations.
I would try a titer test before re-vaccinating, ~$75 would be worth it. My boy was vaccinated at one year old for Rabies and DHLPP, same vet appointment, he was so sick for a week. I found out after wards the the immune system needs time between these two vaccinations to recover.

it will be OK. There is alot of research and literature about 'over vaccination' for parvovirus - causing cancers and arthritis - but that mainly refers to the un- necessary yearly vaccinations. Get the above metioned blood test - it will be worth it. Then get all the missed shots done, (takeing your vets advice) and then get another one done in 18 months time, then leave it for a few years. You don't need yearly ones, every 3 or 4 years is enough after the age of 18 months for parvo.

It will be okay. Any time a stray is brought into a shelter, there are no shot records for the dogs, so they give them all just to make sure the dog is properly vaccinated.

nothing will happen to the dog with vaccinations given. It is safer for the vet and the staff at the clinic to have it done

Your best hope is to go to your vet & have blood drawn & have a titer done. This will give the vet & yourself a pervue of your pups immune system. Good luck.

Overvaccination can cause problems, including immune system disease.

Try again to get the info from the previous owner, or try the pet store.
