I'm still having trouble putting up a desktop picture. This is what happens: When I right-click and go to properties, I can choose desktop but the browse button is not functional. The background chooses are all highlighted and I can't scroll up or down AT ALL. The only thing I can do is change the colors. Whenever I start up or shut down my computer, the last picture that I had up flashes for a minute.

Someone suggested something about a worning screen and that I should reactivate my desktop. But how do I do that? Where do I look?

In corporate environments it is common to disable certain things on domain computers. If this computer is your personal computer, it seems odd that the browse button would be disabled.

Try this: Browse to it in windows explorer, right click and select open with... windows picture and fax viewer.
From the picture viewer, right click the picture and select Set as Desktop Background.

If your desktop 'crashes' and need to be reset, the whole background will be white with a link on it saying something to the effect of: "restore active desktop". You wouldnt need to look for it.
