I want a norfolk terrier, and my house is two story, though a little small, so I want a smaller dog. We have a bunny, but I said I would take great care of the dog, but she still wouldn't. I can find space for the dog and all, but how do I convince her?

The bunny lives in the garage, so the dog would live in the house. She won't let me because of the big responsibility. She also got bitten by one, but my dad is just fine with it.He dosnt mind, though I've tried a lot...

First off, a bunny and a dog in the same house do not mix well. Secondly, if it's your mother's house and she doesn't want a dog ... too bad. Grow up, move out, get own place, than get dog...til than that's life.
Dogs of any size are a huge responsability, even more than rabbits (thought they require a good amount of time to care for as well).. I know I've had both types of pets.

Before you get a dog, trying doing the following just to get a taste of dog ownership:
Go outside 4 times a day for 15 minutes each time, no matter what the weather.
Buy $10 worth of food each week.
Periodically spend $100 on vet bills. Spaying/neutering will run somewhere in the $250 area. Don't feel like spending that $. Well, good luck on raising another 8 dogs.
Learn how to groom, or spend $30 every other month on grooming.
Either spend $100 on training or spend about 40 hours training (for basic training only).
Then consider:
Many smaller breeds live 10-15 years. What's the gameplan for when you move out? If it's an apartment, make sure to find dog friendly housing. (goodbye 90% of the market).
Have a big weekend planned away from home? What's the plan for taking care of your dog? Assuming the parents will take care of her? Shouldn't assume.
If they won't, it'll only cost around $20-30 a day from a kennel (in the midwest anyway).
My point:
Dogs are the greatest thing in the world as far as I'm concerned. But they are VERY BIG responsibility. Not a whim. They deserve more than a whim. If this isn't a whim, then please consider all I've said and good luck if you truly have thought this out.

Be diligent. That is all you can do. Keep researching the breed you want, become an expert on Norfolks. Contact breeders in your area and go to dogs shows. Show your parents that you are really dedicated to the idea of having a dog and caring for it responsibly.
Dogs take money too so work to save in order to pay for the pup and for the many vet bills that even a healthy dog will incur. And good luck!

Depends. What's her reasoning for NOT allowing you to have a dog? Money? Space? Responsibility? Other animals in the house that may result in conflict? Or maybe she doesn't like dogs?
Well, if it's money/responsibility, let her know you'll be self-sufficient. And of course you have to REALLY mean it. You can't just say it then hit her up for $90 for vet bills.
And if it's a matter of her not liking dogs, then you're sh*t out of luck. Sorry pal. Her house, her rules.

Work out a routine and show this to your mum,ask for help from brothers /sisters/friends, she may not have enough time to help you with a dog, they can be very expensive and time consuming.Remember there would be pet insurance, dogs in England can cost anywhere between ten to twenty pounds a month. If you have a pedigree they would cost a lot.We pay £18-50 a month for our Retriever, the cost of dog food varies ,do you have a paper round so you can pay this bill.Dogs can create mess so you must be prepared to clean up after walkies and they have to be groomed.good luck.

Try to get her to let you have a go at it. you can bring one home and have a test run for anywhere from one week to a month. If you don't care for it good enough or she doesn't like the dog you have to get rid of it. Its a good test that proves responsibility and that all dogs don't bite people.

it took ages for me to convince my mum-first find out all you can about norfolk terriers and make sure that you can take good care of one. then find out where to get one. show your mum that you are responsible enough to take care of a dog.
to me, dogs are easier to take care of than bunnies apart from the traning which doesnt take long

i dont know how old you are but dogs are a big responcibilty that im sure your mom doesnt want to take on when you slack off after a month, they are also expencive! vet bills shots fixing food toys leash licensing... unless you have a good afterschool job and dont spend money on anything else your gonna have to try REALLY hard and prove that you will take care of it and anything that goes wrong with it is your responcibilty
