an MRI is taken using really strong magnets which is probably the reason you were told this, although not really sure a helmet is going to do any good. i would talk to the tech and doctor and find out why they want you to wear a helmet. if its a closed MRI that might have something to do with it.
(when i had an MRI done on my ankle they checked to make sure I didn't have any metal anywhere in my leg for that purpose, and have to wear scrubs because of my the metal in my jeans)

No, MRIs are safe for people with metal fillings. I've never heard of any kind of "helmet" used for this. I have metal fillings myself and have had several MRIs with no problems whatsoever.

"Tooth fillings usually are not affected by the magnetic field, but they may distort images of the facial area or brain, so the radiologist should be aware of them. " link below
Does the person who told you this have anything to do with the MRI? Was this person the one who set up the appointment and gave you instructions to prepare for the test? I think that this person was jerking you around.
I've never heard of that. When I had my MRI, no one made any mention of my dental work.
I have to say though, getting your fillings replaced is pretty extreme. I'm just not fond of that dental drill.

You doctors may require you to wear a helment. an MRI is like a gigantic magnet and the metal fillings can counteract with the MRI and cause it to malfunction. It's not uncommon, but it all depends on the type of MRI machine used, you should talk to your doctor or doctor's receptionist before concluding completely.

no , someone is pulling your leg, i've had a MRI , and i have metal fillings, plus i have a permanent titanium srew in both shoulders now, from shoulder surgery , and me ortho surgeon told me the powerful magnets wont affect them at all , because i also heard that the magnets would rip the metal right out , thats an old wise tale , the doctors know what their doing.

My husband has had 3 MRI's and he has fillings....it's never been a problem.
I think someone is putting one over on you.
Call the MRI office before you show up in a helmet or cavities.

I had an MRI with my fillings and without a helmut. I'm sure the helmut would be comfortable, I just haven't heard of it.
Check out MRI information online - start with www.webmd.com, see if they talk about the experience. Or just Google "MRI helmut" and see what comes up.
With or without a helmut, just focus on closing your eyes and sleeping or meditating. The whole MRI thing is really sort of interesting, if you can just get yourself to flow with it.
Good luck.

are you kidding? I had an MRI when I was about 10 and I definitely had fillings then and I had no helmet on.

I have never heard of wearing an helmet but I do know that because of the magnetism of the MRI machine, if you have metal, shrapnel in your body, the magnetic force will pull it out of your body.

i've never heard of it. i know that you can't wear metal when you go into the machine, but i don't really see what wearing a helmet on your HEAD is going to do for the metal fillings in your MOUTH.
