It depends on the city's charter. In some cities the mayor is a full time job, and in such cases the pay is higher. In most cities, it is a part time position, and the mayor's salary is much smaller.

Different towns pay different amounts. I don't know of any base line salary for a mayor. Some mayors even work for free. If you are only interested in the job for the money I wonder if you would do a good job. In one town in NJ the newly elected mayor asked for a 100% salary increase which the residents turned down.
