Is it too wild, or do you think that kind of wild partying is ok ?

Depends upon the Mardi Gras you are talking about. New Orleans Mardi Gras can vary from family-oriented to x-rated depending upon what you are looking for. Unfortunately for travelers who are not willing to leave the French Quarter all they see is the trailer trash that goes down to Bourbon Street at that time of year.

There's a little something for everyone. If you are a New Orleans socialite, there are the Mardi Gras balls hosted by the various Krewes. If you are a regular old family, you can go to parades and see nothing but parents and children watching bands and catching parade throws. If you are a college-student you can go to other sections of the parade route and find your crowd partying it up with a keg. Plus, there are private parties all along the parade routes and side streets.

Heck, as a kid I looked forward to Mardi Gras like I did to Christmas.

So, no, Mardi Gras is not too wild and not lame either.

uh no not really, but i am from New Orleans, i think if i lived anywhere else i probably would think it was a bit ridiculous. I mean we party all year long so mardi gras is kind of like the BIG party, people that dont usually party together do on mardi gras and people from all over the states come and get to kind of break out and let loose, so i do think thats ok. Everybody needs to do that sometimes. The parades are great for the whole family, but down town on mardi gras day is definitely too wild for younger kids.
Mardi Gras makes me happier than Christmas!

Mardi Gras is only as wild as you make it. If you want to have a great time without the wild stuff, go to a parade on st charles. If you are in the mood for wild fun, check out Boubon St after dark or on Mardi Gras day. It will be the most fun you've ever had with your pants on!

groing up around mardi gras and stuff you soon realize that it really sucks. to me every night after the MAIN parades, and ON MARDI GRAS DAY, thats when the wild parties happen. it seems that on mardi gras day, its always moist outside, and if you didn't know before, downtown new orleans, and rain or moisture do not mix. it gets really dirty outside, and all of the cute clothes and shoes that you buy to impress others gets ruined. you get popped in the head with beads, beer spilled on you, people jumping all over you trying to get coconuts and other bullshit that they'll throw away or lose later. people fight and shoot. sound like fun yet???
