spc. you need to look at AR 600-9 for the overweight program for the latest updates, but as I recall you cannot get your promotable status taken from you but you can be flagged which means that you cannot be promoted. Also keep in mind that if you are on the over-weight program when you get your points, you will have a conditional promotion until you pass your PT Test

Promotable status - no, ability to actually get promoted - Yes. Yes because you could be flagged from any favorable action.

Getting put on the overweight list is very dangerous because if you come off of it and go back on you could be out of the service. You need to get serious about weight loss and put this problem behind you altogether.

Promotable statues will be delayed. Taken away permanently is quite unlikely. You have to proof you're fit enough for the job, and yes there is a grace period, and if i'm not mistaken, its 6 months.

If you fail to make weight you are flagged and cannot be promoted until the flag is lifted.

I suspect that you need to start doing some extra PT.

I know you can in the Navy. My husband just made E-5 and they won't give it to him cause he's over weight. Even know it is due to medical reasons. I'm sure it is the same in all the other branches too.

You can be flagged and remain that way until your weight and physical fitness condition meets standards. That means no favorable personnel actions.........including promotion.

First you'll be put in the fatboy pt section (usually).

I am not sure if promotable status will be 'taken away' but you'll be flagged and not promoted.
