They have the upper hand when you purchase them, when you lease them, and when you trade them in.
They depreciate a boatload when they are registered, when you drive them off the lot and when you try to trade them in...this is the worst...trade in. trade in means hurt me bad where you want in dealer language. i went to trade in and they told me my $45,000 truck which is a 4004 is only worth $19,000. Are they freakin' nutz.

Your truck is probably worth about 245000.00..I mean, damn,it is a truck of the future..

Now, about the dealer..Not really sure why you have a problem understanding..Lets say you buy a lawn mower..Do you think it gains value while you are using it?? Nothing else does either, except maybe real estate, and that reason is that they dont make it anymore..

Wow, I would think if you had a car from the future like that 4004, you'd be in great shape. . . j/k In all seriousness, and I know you know this already, it is a business, a very lucrative one at that. There are so many cars on the road, that they really aren't worth that much. Think supply and demand. Yeah, those dealers definnetly have a good thing going. And then people are nervous to buy from an individual. no guarantee (not that they REALLY give you one at the dealer either, but they are good at BS, and ppl like to be bs'd)

maximum probable's sure. the entire undertaking is floored human beings using 10 365 days previous automobiles do not try this for the exciting of it. this is simply by fact they cant handle to pay for something. So knocking 2 grand off say a 10 grand vehicle nevertheless leaves you with 8 grand to discover. this is a pointless gimmick that wont make any result what so ever :)

You’ve got to be kidding!

No consumer should enter a Dealership today not already knowing what to pay for a new car. Dealer cost (invoice) is freely available on the internet and consumer magazines.

Several websites provide retail and wholesale (trade-in value) for used cars. If you choose to accept wholesale for your car – that’s your choice. Nobody forces you to trade in your car. You can advertise the car and sell it for retail!

Cars only “depreciate a boatload” if your purchase a car nobody wants. Buy a car with reasonable reliability, the right options, and your depreciation will be minimal.

Don’t blame a car dealer for your bad decisions. Learn from your mistakes and don’t repeat them!
