Don't be fooled. There is professional yard = 36 inches, and a college yard = 3 feet. They should never be confused.

when a football field is layed out the lines that indicate the yard marks are from center. so if you take into account the wide paint line they lay down.. thats probably 3 inches off the apperance of the yard per side.. making it 30"s left. and you figure most pro atheletes wear about a size 12 shoe and up so there foot in fact would be 1/2 of a yard long per say. i wear size 13 and my foot with shoe isa few inches over a foot.
I dont think each field is calibrated to exact specs but its rough and dirty and thats really all that matters. it is the same distance length wise in pros, college, and HS football just that in the width of the fields vary.. pros being the widest of the fields of course. also the goal posts in the pros are set further back in the end zone because the end zone is wider as well.
hope this helps =)

A yard is 36 inches. It might look smaller because of the width of the paint. Get some tape and measure.

Well, I don't know about the foot, & feet situation, they are bigger these days, but your question causes me to wonder, end of paint, or middle of paint, point to point, to make a 100.

Yep, it's certainly 36 inches. I've stepped on both and can vouch for it.
