It depends on the tone of the bark. You must listen to the barks very carefully and observe what is going on when the bark happens. In this way you will gradually learn what that particular bark inflection means. So the first thing to do is to make note of all the different kinds of barking.
I have two pet hens and when I pick one of them up and she makes a particular sharp and very loud and deep cluck I know it means "PUT ME DOWN!"

I think it barks the same every time, and puts what it's trying to say in the bark. Sorta like us humans having tones in our voice.

Mine says:
"Please" - for a cookie (milk bone).
"I need to go out - NOW!"
"Get away from my front door!"
