well just like everyone has been saying same as adults do but i think there is a deeper reason that should be putting the parents at fault. Here me out, Most kids go out and get drunk at a party and have to make it home or there parents will be mad and get them in trouble if they are not back by there curfew. When i was in high school my mother told me if i was ever going to drink at a party then call her and let her know that i was going to be staying the night there or get her or someone sober to drive me home when able to. She didnt get mad , she rather i told her what was going on so that i could make good plans and judgement. This made me never want to drive drunk to get home. I new some kids that would drive home drunk and i would ask them why dont you just tell your parents whats up and you are staying the night. The kids would respond with my parents wouldnt understand and i would get in more trouble if i told them.

The same reason that adults drink and drive. Drinking alcohol impairs ones judgment. They don't realize how their ability to react has been affected. When people drink they lose the ability to realize the number/amount they have had and believe that they can drive just fine. But, especially teens, think that they are immortal and nothing will happen to them. Wrong-just look at the papers almost every week.

Teens think they are in control. To admit that you may need help is not "cool" or manly. Plus, they think they are responsible. That as a teen they can handle the responsiblity of drinking and that they know if their judgement is imparied. And even if it is just slightly impaired they are better drivers then their friends would be sober.
This is just what they think. You and I know that it is not the reality.

Why do adults drink and drive. Why do teens do anything. Raging hormones. The feeling of invincibility. Remember?

Peer pressure often makes drinking seem mandatory reguardless of location and circumstance. Additionally, controlling parents often prohibit teens from drinking at home and force their children to return home every night.

Alcohol impairs your ability to make good decisions, an ability already in short supply during the teen years :)

it's not only teens that do it, adults do it too.
someone close to that person should always make sure they DON'T drive after they have had way too much.

They like the fun drinking usually brings, then they have to go somewhere and assume their motor skills (pun intended) are intact and go driving.
