If you feel that you are right at something don't listen to people. Especially learning a new language it's so great. Don't quit.
Good Luck!

Don't quit. Deutsch ist sehr wunderbar! I personally think that it is better to learn another foreign language if you live in the US other than Spanish, because anywhere in the US where Spanish would be spoken, English most likely would be as well. As to you being called a Nazi, I am of German heritage and am taking German class. When I get called a Nazi I tell them that I am Jewish (which is true) and love to see their reaction. Anyone who calls you that is completely ignorant of German history beyond WWII. Germans are very successful in the sciences, as well as business. Don't quit! And if you do decide to, take another language. They're really fun. Je parle francais aussi!

The people who are calling you a Nazi are ignorant; don't let them bully you. As other posters have advised: you had a reason for starting the lessons, and that reason is just as valid now. Even if it's just to broaden your own horizons, to know that you can do it, it's worthwhile. Besides, American tourists are derided in so many countries because they expect everyone to speak English; imagine the warm reception you'll get if you visit Germany and at least *try* to hold your conversations in German! Yes, it can be extremely useful, and it's not as difficult to master as the one poster seems to think.
BTW, those people who are making fun of you don't realize that at least 75% of the English language derives directly from German! (Ex: nachbar/neighbor; salz/salt; haus/house; kalt/cold - need I go on?) I wonder how they'd feel about that!!

NEIN! Keep up with your studies. German is useful if you plan to go into business because the U.S. does a lot of business with Germany (particularly the auto industry).
If they call you a Nazi, just shrug it off. Millions of people speak German every day and no one labels them as Nazis.

I wish I'd kept my Deutch up. Finally Germans have come my way (I haven't made it to Germany yet) and I can't converse in the mother tongue.
Tell your people to count their blessings you're NOT Nazi, or they'd really have something to gripe about.
The learning of a language, in and of itself, is reason alone to practice. The discipline is good for the brain. And really, the world is getting smaller all the time, as people travel and communicate. It'll come in handy, you won't believe the thrill of understanding and joining in when the time comes; learn well.

Obviously you had a reason when you started learning German. That reason is still valid. Language learning is its own reward. And you might be surprised about how useful you can find it! Keep going!

unfortunately it would take some 100 years for a foreigner to become fluent in German, so it is quite pointless.
