Signs of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome include swollen hands and wrists and can involve painful throbbing, tingling and numbness in your hand, wrist and forearm. These symptoms often occur when you are sleeping and cause you to wake up, but they can also happen during the day. CTS can affect all or any combination of your fingers and can cause your hand to become so weak that you cannot hold on to objects as you could before.

How old are you ? And how long have you have the problem?

If you've had it for awhile, It sounds like it might be some sort of arthritic problem, because the site I found says this :

The wrist joints may be swollen. Your wrist and hands may fill with fluid and feel tight, especially after use. When all the articular cartilage is worn off the joint surface, you may notice a squeaking sound when you move your wrist. Doctors call this creaking crepitus.

You should get it checked out by a doctor, asap, because if there's an underlying cause, you might be doing further damage by ignoring it.

This can be caused by one of the following:

1. Repeated use of the muscle or joint. For example, drummers frequently get this because they are constantly moving their wrist in the same motion, causing the joint to swell up. Some pianists get this as well. Have you been doing anything lately that has used the same muscle and joint in your hand or wrist repeatedly?

2. Extreme allergies. Generally, if this was the case, it would be accompanied by other symptoms, so this is most likely not it.

3. Bug bite/ sting. Many insects, particularly spiders and bees, can cause swelling when they sting/ bite you. If this is the case, you should seek medical help immediately before it becomes too infected. Many times, people don't realize it when they were bitten by certain spiders, as their bites are usually unnoticeable. Hope this helps!
