Cats learn by association. As a rule they don't like loud noises so I tend to clap my hands loudly and close to them with a loud 'no'. You need to do this consistently and it can take some time.
Cats can be very clever and mine will wait til I'm out of the room and then try to scratch things! Keep an ear out and keep on with the clapping. You can use the water spray thing too but it gets a bit messy!
Please don't declaw your cat. It is cruel and unnecessary!
Encourage use of the scratching post. I got my cat interested by playing 'chase' with a toy on a string around the post. She soon got the idea that she could scratch there and it was fun. I'm now on post 4 (she has worn the others out!).

The previous suggestion about the super soaker (or something similar) is a good idea. Some other things that work includ double-sided tape on the endge of counters that you don't want climbed - cats *hate* things sticking to their paws. After a while, they will assume the tape is there, and you can take it off. My main concern is the electical wire that you mentioned. This is a major issue and a huge health hazard for kittens. I suggest investing in some wire-wrapping tubes. These are tubes that you run your chords through. They are slightly larger and have a harder shell, so more difficult to chew through. As a bouns: they clean up your chords and make the area look nicer! However, I would never leave a kitten alone in an area with power chords as they may still find a way to get at them. One last thing to keep in mind, is that a kitten is a kitten. It is natural for them to explore their environment, so no matter what you do, they may continue this behavior for a while. However, continue reinforcing that the behavior is not good, and eventually they will grow out of it. Good luck, and enjoy your little friends!

Get "soft paws" nail caps for the kitten. He will still climb and scratch but there will be a lot less damage because the nail caps are soft.
He will calm down as he matures.

well it is hard
we made a toy, and covered with catnip often
the toy was a post covered in carpet on a flat board also carpet covered.
the top had a child's toy nailed on, it was a mobile with plastic bells. at each end.
they have to climb to bat the toy top, cat nip gets them fired up and soon they tire out ( or I do )
if you still have problems, trim the front claws, just blunt them it is much harder to climb them. do not do the rear claws, just in case they have to defend themselves.
you may also try cat boots, cloth or leather work fine.
hope I helped

unfotunatley you need to be a bit rough, the only time they will learn is as a kitten, ive got cats and when they were babies a couple of years ago they used to do that and get on the dinner table and all that, but if it does that you have to push it away and shout or something, but if you give them a hard enough push - obviously not so that it will hurt them, they will soon think twice about doing it again, but they learn quickly trust me, and dont feel bad about doing it because they have to learn...my cats are 2 now and they dont do anything bad...at all, but it only took a couple of weeks of giving them a little push.

Maybe he's trying to get your attention...Try playing ALOT and get him to run around. As for the water thing, usually if you spray their body, not face, they hate it. If not, I put my kitten in the kennel carrier for a little time out. It always calms her down.

buy him some toys and play with him. even a ping pong ball or piece of wool will occupy him. cats seem to have mad half hours, so find out what he likes to play with and nip his bad habits in the bud now.
