Actually, holding your anger inside is a step in the right direction. The confrontational treatments that advised "letting out your anger" all ended up with a bunch of angry people. There is an endless supply of anger in each of us like snot during a cold or diarrhea during a gastrointestinal upset—the idea is first to keep it in. The important step is in resolution of the source of anger/snot/diarrhea. We need to know what is the source of our anger. Most often anger is a secondary emotion that covers another emotion most commonly helplessness. The healthiest position is to come to grips with those areas that we are in fact helpless to have impact—accept that, dissolve the anger and move on.

It is unhealthy to hold your anger inside because if you don't let out those negative feelings then eventually they are going to seep out in other ways. You may find yourself lashing out at innocent people for no reason.
Just because emotions are not tangible does not mean they can't effect your body as physical things can. It's the same as being constipated. If you don't go to the bathroom over a certain amount of time, there will be consequences that are negative, Worse case scenario-death.
Well... feelings kind of work the same way. You have to address your feelings in some way. Even if that means talking it out, kick boxing, writing, etc...

When you hold the rage in you turn your body into a pressure vessel. You can and do actually cause physical damage to your organs. High blood pressure, hormonal imbalances, increased probability of stroke, headaches, vision problems, lowered immunity to disease and the list goes on. It just isn't a good thing for you to do. Even stress when not relieved, usually by exercise, can be a time bomb that will go off when you least expect it.
Just getting some exercise will make a new person of you and you will see the results in just a matter of a few days.

It's like leaving something to rot in the basement. It creates new problems.
