Romanian for the money.
Arsenal USA for the Quality.
Yugo guns look to me to be better quality than AMD-65's,
But AMD-65's ARE very cool lookin' critters.

If you want the very best, most high quality AK 47, get the Yugo version. It is the most improved and made of superior materials on modern machinery. It has featured the others wish they could have. The super duty (like in a machine gun) 1.5mm thick RPK receiver, nice teak wood stock (or folding metal for more $$), bayonet lug (bayonets are under $20.00 most places), it has a neat folding grenade launcher sight (can't get grenades, though), folding front & rear night sights (tritium burned out), and the one I have has a real 'sweet' and easy trigger. They cost a little more than a Romanian but are 10 times a better rifle. Fit and finish is great for a military surplus (but unissued) type.
Get the Yugo AK 47. You won't be disappointed.

Alot of what you are asking about the quality on an ak depends on who built it to start with since most AK rifles are assembled from parts kits with US parts. I have several and like different features on all of them. If you want to research more before you make a purchase check out the akforum. It is a free forum where you would be able to research the information you seek. There are many knowledgable members that would be glad to help including myself.

If I was you I would have a look at the Saiga rifles. I have 4 and find them to be very dependable and accurate. I have 2 in 7.63x39, 1 in .223 and one in 20ga. I hunt with the 20 ga. They have an odd trigger group but it works. The stock does not have a pistol grip but the stock shoulders very well, a lot better then my other AK clones.

Romanian for the money....
You can modify the fire control group to get rid of trigger slap and refinish and you have a pretty good AK...
Other than that, I would honestly say that they are about all the same, with a few exceptions being very crappy.
