a papoose board comes from the Native american word for the board they carried their children on their backs. It is an oblong board with straps used to imobilize the child, They use them for circumcisions and other procedures to keep them still so they can't flinch and injure themselves. It hold their arms and whole body still.

A papoose board restrains a child's head, arms, and legs. This would allow for the doctors to help him without him being injured if he suddenly pulls away or jerks. I found a website that has some pictures. They look torturous, but will be helpful in the long run. http://www.quickmedical.com/olympicmedical/circumstraint/papoose_boards.html

The papoose board just restrains the little guy so they can check him. They used a papoose board when my 22 yr old was a week old for his circumcision-talk about HORRID!!!!! Restraining him wasn't bad-getting me off the doctor after the procedure is what was bad!!!!LOL!!!! Good luck!!!!

is the eye exam that necassary? how old is he? is there some problem?
if you feel he really needs the exam.... then they will only hold him in the papoose board long enought to get the exam done... i'd leave the room and come back to calm him afterwards. reassure him before hand then leave dont linger..
hugs.. its always hard to see your kids unhappy.. i hope all is well for you.

It is a restraint device to keep your child still during a procedure to preveny injury to him or caregivers.Go to www.fotosearch.com/LIF145/ped07001/ for a picture of one with an explanation of it's use. Also your caregiver should honor a request to see the device along with an explanation of the procedure before your child has the procedure.
