My friend had some X-rays and an MRI done yesterday on her knee. The nurse who was looking at the films said it looks like a joint mouse. When asked how theyfix that the nurse said she didn't know. Niether of us have heard of this. When i looked it up online i got some weird links and nothing even close to having anything to do with a knee. Does anyone know what this means? And if so how is it usually fixed? Thanks in advance.

A joint mouse means that there is a loose "body" in the knee joint. Often the patient complains of feeling something moving in the knee or something feeling funny. Often these loose bodies are fragments of bone or cartilage that came loose and now are just floating around in the knee. The cause is usually an earlier injury. The medical term is osteochondritis or osteochondritis dissecans.

Treatment will depend on whether or not these bodies cause the knee to lock up or cause other symptoms. It there are symptoms, surgery will be done to remove these loose pieces.
