Hi, in my opinion the person above me hit the nail on the head.
Asians do get the most harrassment, and unfortunately there is a lot of violence due to this.

Auckland, even though it's a very multicultural city, seems to bear the brunt of it. Generally it comes down to a lack of education, and racism ingrained into someones head from a young age.

Quite stupid how many people stereotype others. I have friends who were born in New Zealand and still get comments made about them, because some people are just so small minded they assume someone cant speak English because of their skin colour.

I've had a lot of Asian friends in NZ and quite often different countries will fight against eachother. Kiwis (some, not all) will just mouth off at whoever they please...
My ex boyfriend was Korean, and it infuriated me how many people would just say stupid stuff like "F*%k off back to China" (Yeah... he's never even been to China), or throw stuff at him and his friends. If I was there at the time, I'd say my 5cents worth to the attackers, but he would just tell me to calm down, because it happened all the time.

Ahhh, im rambling here, but I have so many experiences in regards to racism. So yeah.... its definately there, but in comparison to other countries, I guess it's not 'as' bad.
But what racism is good racism? Feelings hurt just as bad as violent crimes... it's unacceptable anywhere.

New Zealand has it's share of racism as do all countries. However, I do think we make less of a deal of skin colour than Americans.
We don't make a big deal and issue of small things and small words like other countries might.
I would say that Asians probably face the most racism but even then its often racism between different Asian countries.
On the whole, I think we're probably better than Australia and a lot better than the States.

I'd say there isn't that much. Compaired to Australia anyway, they had their Cronulla Riots (Lebs got beatten up by a heap of white australians). They are very racist towards aborginies and treat them like they are nothing. Although i am generalising this is what i've obbserved from 6months of living in this country.

In NZ (where i have lived for about 12- 13years) there isn't much problem. Unless you're asian, they are the ones who get racist comments the most. NZers are far more tolerant to the indiginous people ( the maori's) that Australians (i believe in some case too tolerant)

But yes every country has racism, and I think that's the way it'll be for a very long time. (I would like it not to be this way but i'm being realistic)

I see that this thread is about 10 years old; so if any of this is still true I'm buying a one-way ticket. Of course, I'm American Indian and hoping to pass for Pacific Islander down there instead of American"black" the way America and the UK and KKKanada treat me.
