I can only assume that you are asking this question because you are considering seeking dental care abroad. Any non-third world country can have dentists providing excellent care. The only question I would ask is, how in the world are you going to find out which dentist in any foreign country is right for you? It's hard enough for people to find a good dentist in their own neighborhood where they can get recommendations from friends and co-workers. What are you going to do if you have trouble with your dental services six months after you return to the states?

QUITE SERIOUSLY, two of my favorite and seemingly best qualified dental instructors in school were from overseas. One was from Iraq and the other from Iran. FAR from Iraq and Iran, as they were practicing in the USA, but they were trained in their homelands. You just can't say if a country has the good or bad dentists as a blanket statement.

If I have misunderstood your intentions, please accept my apology and ignore my answer.

When I went to China on a dental mission several years ago, the local Chinese dentists did not use proper sterilization techniques for themselves or their instruments. Most of the doctors used one pair of gloves for multiple patients. Their theory was to protect themselves from disease, not worry about spreading disease from person to person. It would not be worth the risk of infection, as China has some of the quickest escalating rates of Hepatitis and HIV.

If you are concerned about money, find your closest dental school and have your work done there. The students are 100% supervised and all steps are approved before the work is completed. Financially, dental schools are about 25% the price of an outside dentist.

Not personally, but dentists I know have tried to correct some of the mistakes made by overseas dentists.

Some things to consider:
You might get a very good dentist who does excellent work and uses the lastes sterilization protocols...or you may not. The goverment does not do much in the way of supervision.

If something goes wrong with your dental work, you will have to make another expensive trip to get it fixed. Most US dentists do not want to try to correct work done in another country. If they do, they will want to be paid for it and you will probably spend more than if you'd just had it done here in the first place.

It's a gamble at best. I would not be willing to take such a risk with my health to save a few dollars.
