hi, i'm a tattoo artist and i run into this situation all the time. it honestly all depends on the severity of your stretch marks. and they're very common, so there's nothing to be ashamed of if you need to go to your local shop and ask your artist what he thinks. maybe you're not embarassed, i dunno, i'm just saying. i have them and i'm very thin. i've considered doing as someone else suggested and use some creams to diminish them before getted tattooed in that area. the reason is, stretched and scared skin, depending on how bad, may not take ink. i've tattooed on stretch marks, but you can still see the stretchmarks, and in most cases the ink is lighter in those spots. sometimes, depending on the tattoo, they become less noticeable and camouflaged. however just the same, sometimes they become more obvious because there are visible lines going through a tattoo. like i said, it all depends on how the actually stretch marks look, so your best bet to to show and ask your tattoo artist. regardless, using something like mederma or whatever else they sell for scars and stretchmarks, always helps.
for your second question, i have my ribs tattooed...infact, here's a picture.. it's not done yet, obviously. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v143/thedoomed/rib1.jpg as you can see (i guess you can see it in the pic) i have stretch marks right above where my boxers start. i want a tattoo on my other side that goes all the way down to my thigh so i'm taking measures to diminish their appearance. as i tell everyone that comes into the shop that's worried about the pain "if i can do it, you can do it" i weigh like 115 lbs soaking wet. well, you get the point. hope you can get something usefull out of all my ramblings. good luck.

I'm not sure if you can get a tattoo to cover your stretch marks. But I know when I went to get mine done, a woman came and asked for what you want but she wanted hers on her stomach and the tattoo artist told her no that wasn't good and he wouldn't do it. So maybe you should ask a dermatologist first then go to different tattoo places and see what they say as well.

i don't think that is a very attractive place for your first tattoo it would just look weird and out of place. It would be one thing if you had a lot of them but just one would look funky in that area. plus don't listen to all the other people and what they say get it where ever you want you know yourself and no one has to tell you who you are so don't be scared to be called skanky or whatever just get it where u want since its permanent and i would not want you to regret it, plus if you go to a really good tattoo artist he will say where it will look good and where it want.

It is possible to get tattoos on stretchmarks and it is possible to get them done on scars.
My boss was in a horrible car accident when she was younger that left really bad scars up her left side. She got tattoos to cover them up and it looks really beautiful.
I have seen side tattoos but they have always been large in nature and I'm not quite sure if a smaller one would be well suited..but it is your body.
