Biologists, geologists, astronomers. The term is used by "Scientific" Creationists to pretend that they have an equal position to debate from. They can't just lump them together as "scientists", since that would draw attention to the fact that their "science" isn't science. They can't debate on the evidence since they have none. They are stuck with cheap rhetoric.

Well, this might be a shock, but some biologists will publicly deny evolution. Granted, it;s about politics, religion, and getting the salvation of their next grant funding, so some biologists will go there. Some, however, are just bone-heads and won't play along with the masses. The funny thing is that a lot of those boneheads still manage to get their grant funding, so I guess it's ok.

I've seen this term used many times by evolutionary biologists to describe themselves (e.g. Stephen J. Gould). It's not that incorrect. It just means someone who uses evolutionary biology to explain life.

I call myself an evolutionist.

It makes it sound more like a religion (which usually end in ~ist). Its so that they can try and make it seem like a faith based belief (which they can argue against) rather than a scientific theory to explain observed facts.
