If the dresses were already paid for I would think the bridesmaids as well as the whole bridal party would be able to get a refund on their dresses if returned due to the wedding being canceled, if already paid for considering they were never worn. The only thing that would not be refundable would be the alterations done to the dresses. Now if they weren't paid for you have nothing to worry about. Just make sure you call the bridal store and let them know the event is canceled.

Unless the store is willing to give a refund for the dresses, whoever paid for the dresses will be out for the cost of them. A bridesmaid could ask the bride/groom (or whoever cancelled the wedding) to be reimbursed, but I woudn't bank on getting any money back.

It would probably be the nice thing to do, but I don't think the bridesmaid should have to pay for it if there is no wedding.
Whoever cancelled the wedding should be responsible for all the costs assosiated with it.

I would hope that the couple would pay for them since they cancelled. At the same time, a wedding cancellation is very expensive and mentally rough so I would not force it and just try to return it to the store or sell it on Ebay as new.

Um...first of all-the bridesmaid is only supposed to "help out" with the payment. 50/50 with the bride. But to answer your question, no. If the wedding gets cancelled and you are a bridesmaid, you see if you can return the dress(if you dont want to keep it) and the bride is supposed to give you the money you spent back. It's just the way it goes.

Yes! Trust me, the bride is DEVASTATED at cancelling the wedding and is probably hoping no one will ever even mention it again. (Can you tell I've been there??)
The Last thing you want is for someone you consider a good friend asking you to pay them back for the a dress.
If she is your friend, let her know she need not worry about a thing and if she needs help cancelling anything else (caterers, limos, etc.) that you'd be glad to do it for her.
My sister did all that for me and I was SO grateful.

If the bride or groom cancelled the wedding, then the party which cancelled the ceremony should step up to the plate and offer to pay for any purchases made for the wedding (that can not be returned).
If no one offers, then consider it the cost of experience, and don't offer to do anything with these people again.

I wouldn't pay for the dress if the wedding was cancelled before I paid for the dress.

Well, SOMEONE has to pay for the dress. I mean, they do have to be paid for. The bridal store could care less whether the dresses are actually going to be worn.
I think the couple should pick up this cost. It shouldn't be the bridemaid's responsiblity to pay for the dress...they aren't the ones who cancelled the wedding.
