Here is the simple answer to your question: we are merely chess pieces in a chess game between God and the devil. Read Job, where a wager was made to God by the devil and he let the Devil harrass Job almost to the point of death. The biggest lie is that the devil doesnt exist. If angels can walk the earth, then why not demons? What Good does, evil tries to imitate......ying-yang.....also depends on your religious preference, if the devil is talked about or not......or if the religion is too afraid to answer real questions that are mind perplexing.......?

Evil is everywhere. It's evil that kills, maims, destroys, spreads disease, and has intolerance and spreads hatred. Devils are right here on earth...I bet the guy on the subway next to you is one and you can't even see it.
Devils exist in living people, and in fact ARE living people. People are angels too (of God), just as the evil ones are of the devil.
So it makes sense that there are passed away angels in heaven, although most angels are and always were primarily heavenly bodies and not sent to earth...but there are earth angels too, and devils (evil spirits) they go to Hell, and God has only given his fallen angel (the Devil) power and not all the others who dwell in hell. They are trapped there. One day all the demons are supposed to be unleashed before they all are put in the fry pan for good.
Read the Book of Revelation. It's really very interesting. You can see how much of what is prophesized is coming true, so I don't know why people dispute it.
Sometime in the 2000th millenium, the world is supposed to end and Jesus return...so what seems eternity to us could just be a single breath to God, and for all we know he just gave us a heavenly day and got sick of what he saw and said forget it, that was a big mistake!
Time is nothing when you are eternal. Fathom that.
And HAPPY, you said "Almost everyone, including people who murder will say they are a basically good person."
This is the illusion people have about reality because they make their own interpretation of what is good and what is evil.
There is only one interpretation, but evil people refuse to accept God for what He is (and make God into their own image...thus the false gods of this world are born) and thus the deception (of the devil) prevails, and is what makes people actually believe the bull they dish out.

People are always talking about devils hurting people. They seem to always mean that the devils somehow get into our heads and lead us to believe in 'false' things or steer us to make decisions that take us further away from God. It's as if we are always fighting the devils who get inside our thoughts but the angels seem to work differently by appearing unexpectedly and getting involved in miracles. From what I've heard people say, the 'devils' are always here causing problems daily but the angels pop up once and awhile, maybe during a crisis situation.

This is perplexing to me also, because demons are nothing more than fallen angels. Satan is called an angel of light. If he can deceive people into believing that he doesn't exist or has no power in the world today, then he is accomplishing his goals of deception and leading them away from God's truth.

Surprisingly that is a common thing in the churches of today.
where one can pick and choose which beliefs best suit their
lifestyles "Some churches study business methods to learn how
better to "Market" their religious services.Congregations pay
thousands of dollars to hire church consulting firms.
The wall Street Journal and The Economist report that mega-
churches typically offer "one stop shopping" for body and soul."
Church complexes may include restaurants, cafes, beauty salons.
saunas, and sports facilities.Attractions may include theater,
visiting celebrities, and contemporary music. But what do the
preachers teach?? 'The gospel of prosperity' is a popular theme,
as well as promoting political canidates and partys.
The point of all this is the fact that basic Christian principals and
morals are out the window. If you want to believe that angels
help people, your welcome,If you want to believe that satan the
devil is a funny little guy that runs around with a minnie pitchforf
and jabs you to make you do right, well, thats OK to.what ever you
Want to do is just alright with God. As long as you donate, the
pastor/preacher or what ever will buy your(Immortal)soul into
heaven for you.

Lucifer used to be an angel who's name is now Satan. I believe the Holy Spirit within is something that people ignore along with others who are filled with the Holy Spirit ...some call angels. I also don't believe everyone who allows Satan into their lives is living a life compared to Job in the Bible. He did nothing and lost everything...it was a test of strength. There are many "Jobs" amongst us. Many today cannot say they've done nothing...today is riddled with deceitful excuses and Satan does his best work when one makes a choice to lose faith especially when it comes to obsessive fear...are we to allow the the devil to harm us or should we be humbling before our Lord and paying attention to the angels amongst us, as some call them, and what is within.

I think for those who don't believe in the devil or demons, it's just something they do willfully, to make them feel more comfortable sleeping at night. I mean imagine, if your not sure of anything, even of God, the thought of demons, who have a master over space and hyperspaces, can walk into a room without going through a door and can inhabit your body can be a terrifying thought. "If I don't believe it or think about it, maybe it'll go away". Just a self preservation kind of thing I think.

The devil hurts people through influencing world events. The devil is listed as "the god of this world" 1corinth 4:4 . The bible says that all of the kings of this world are under his authority. Rev 13:1-4 Jesus referred to him as the ruler of this world and said that Jesus followers are in the world (physically) but not of the world (mentally/spiritually). We all are being hurt in some fashion by the devil.

The Bible speaks of both, but unfortunately, the sort of neochristianity that is popular these days has denied the existence of Satan and demons. I personally believe, as many Christians do, that there are both angels and demons, who are in a constant struggle for our minds.
