You do have to teach your dog manners... but what I did with my mini dashaund... is I treated him like a baby... didn't get him too hyper or play too much... I held him like a baby and let him sleep with me... I think the key was not to play with him that much... just to love on him! I think when children play with dogs all day everyday they become hyper dogs... my min dox is the calmest and he loves to get up and cuddle with people! I havn't met one person that didn't want to take him home because they liked his manner so much!

Honestly, the only one I can think of that meets those requirements right off the bat is a stuffed one!

Manners and listening skills come with training, which is something you must provide to the dog. Occassionally you can find a dog from a shelter that has been fostered, or from a rescue, that has had previous obedience training, but it is never something to take for granted and all dogs will need a refresher when they come to a new house with a new owner.

As to whether it's loveable, that's completely in your eyes. Some people think Pugs are hideous, other think they are the most adorable creatures ever. If you are looking for one that's more affectionate or cuddlier than others, you will need to meet with several dogs before finding one you feel meets your level of expectation.

Training is key. And it seems from when i was looking, the smaller the dog, the more it has a mind of it's own...hahah
not quite true...
from what I remember bichon frise I could have butchered the word is a very good small dog...
I myself have a 8 week old Lhasa Apso. I don't know enough about her to reccomend. She is a little bossy, but she does learn quickly. Too bad now she gives her paw for anything she wants including your hands...haha =)

I would say a jack russel or a chihuahua. but they usually dont come with great manners and listens well unless they have been trained by you or the breeder. and all dogs are loveable ♥

it sounds like any dog owned by a great owner who takes the time necessary to properly train their dog. If you get a dog that has poor manners and doesn't listen, take a look at who's holding the leash to find out where the problem came from.

Good luck finding a dog like that! most small dogs are yappy and if you want them to listen and have great manners as you call it, well they dont come with the dog, you have to teach them that, which isnt easy. Are you sure you are ready for a dog?!

if you want to purchase an already made perfect pet you do not have the time for a dog. you need to teach a dog all the things you are asking for. if you want a dog that already has these basic skills then go to your local animal shelter, but know you'll have to put in the time to perfect it.

Instead of b-u-y-i-n-g try adopting one. Go to your local humane society or SPCA and they will have all sorts of wonderful dogs up for adoption and they have done temperment tests to find out which is the best environment would be best for the dog, they also have had all of their shots, and have been spayed or neutered and also all of their other medical concerns have been taken care of already. They are already on heartworm preventative, and flea and tick preventative, and if the dog is heartworm positive then they will cure the dog of them before they are placed up for adoption.

Before you purchase any animal, be sure to do your homework. Please look into resuce groups. I'm adopting a pure breed 3 yr old Lhasa Apso on Sat.
Great place to look is petfinder.com, and for information on all breeds start with http://www.dogbreedinfo.com
Be sure your home is a "forever home" before you do anything.
Best of luck
