generally used to treat anxiety and depression...
Lexapro helps to restore the brain's chemical balance by increasing the available supply of serotonin, a substance in the brain believed to influence mood.
Many patients treated with Lexapro began to feel better within 1 or 2 weeks, although the full effect may take 4 to 6
Lexapro is well tolerated by most people. The most commonly reported side effects of Lexapro are nausea, insomnia, problems with ejaculation, somnolence, increased sweating, fatigue, decreased libido, and anorgasmia. Most of the side effects experienced by patients taking Lexapro are mild to moderate and go away with continued treatment, and usually do not cause patients to stop taking Lexapro.

The only problem I had on Lexapro were sexual side effects (extremely common with most antidepressants.) Aside from that it worked well. My sister has been on it for a while now and has responded well to it. Her only complaint is the sex thing.
Lots of side effects are possible with all medications, but the key word is "possible". I've noticed on this website that most of the responses tend to be from people who have had negative experiences with something and they say "Oh, this is BAD, DO NOT USE IT" just because it turned out to not be the right medication for them. This isn't very good advice because what works for one person may very well not work for the next person. And what doesn't work for one person may be another person's miracle.
Plenty of people take these meds with mild (or no) side effects (which often subside after continued use of the medication).
It's great that you found a therapist that you connect with. That can make all the difference in the world! I wish you luck. :-) It sounds like you are on the right track.

When I started taking lexapro 3 years ago, it made me feel the best I had ever felt. I have come a long way in therapy and have tapered down and am almost off it and I am still feeling good.
I had sexual side effects, harder time orgasming. I also started to have very frequent urination about a year ago and had to go on something for overactive bladder. I blame it on the lexapro because urinary changes are a less common side effect but, who knows.

My best friend and I both take Lexapro. She loves it and coudln't get along with out it. I don't hate it, but some of the side effects suck. Since I've been taking Lexapro I cannot achieve orgasm. And that is actually listed as a side effect of the drug. Go to crazymeds.org You can find out EVERYTHING about Lexapro and just about any other anit-depressant. Here are some other side effects:
* headache
* nausea
* dry mouth
* sweating
* sleepiness or insomnia
* diarrhea or constipation
* weight gain
* loss of libido

Lexapro may make you feel nauseated for the first week--if it's serious nausea, take half a pill for a week instead of a whole pill, to ease into it. But don't worry--the nausea subsides after a little while. I've been on it for half a year, and it works very well for me.
