It means that he likes you and wants a relationship with you but he isn't considering marriage and a family at this point. He still wants to be able to go out and have fun with his friends and have a little freedom.

He most probably loves you and from past experience has harbored a fear of commitment and that he might lose your friendship and company if you become too close or move in together
He may also value his space and privacy and probably thinks he won't get any alone time if in a commitment. Let him know that you are all for taking it slow and enjoying this phase of the relationship, but that you won't be taken for granted and you will eventually want more...like moving in together or something of the sort

well after 18 yrs of marriage I feel myself he is either afraid you will want more commitment or doesnt mean it.Its a huge gap between emotions but guys get nervous aboiut it.Hang in their for a little an see an watch carefully.But if he says he wants more space..getout..causeit usuallymeans heis starting to shoparound and you will be on the clearance rack soon..good luck

Well, I guess that he is just being honest. He may very well like you a lot or even love you, but he wants to get to know you and more about you before you get married, have children and grow old together.
What's the rush? Slow down things and enjoy :-)

Well,if you are so enthralled with his"i Love you" could it be that you over reacted and started talking about living together and marriage? Maybe suggesting "concrete" plans for the future? Some men become frightened.

Maybe he does love you... and maybe things really are moving too fast for him right now.. doesn't mean he doesn't love you, just means he needs more time.. Hang with him if he's worth it.
Guys are really weird this way, it's just the way it is.

Think that he respects you enough to go slow with you; what he is saying is that he doesn't want to f**k this one up.
OR -maybe he loves you as a friend and there moght not be any more to it then that.
You have to be patient and give these things time.

that he loves you but was wanting to take the relationship slowly?
he could be comitment shy, or matbe he just wants to enjoy the relationship for what it is without rushing to the alter with morgages and kids in tow.

that he doesnt rush into commitment, because so very easy to get into, not so easy to get out of. That can be a good quality, but if his I love you's arent genuine, then he wants sex and he knows he has to tell you what you want to hear. But dont judge too quick, evaluate!!!!
