Two possibilities:

He can't, which would mean he isn't omnipotent.

He won't, which means he isn't omnibenevolent.

Some christians believe they are really punished and then annihilated. I'm not sure how I feel about it. The text has been tortured so much that I'll need to do more study to find out the truth. Well personally, I don't care what God does with his creation that rejects Him. He's God. He can do what He wants. It's interesting to note that when it talks about hell in the bible, it references the weeping and the "gnashing of teeth." The orginal text, if I'm mistaken implies the gnashing is in anger. There will be some very angry people that descend into hell, but it will not help them. No one is forcing you to go to hell. Not even God can force you into hell. If you go, no matter what it is like and for how long, you have gone their by your own choice....so there is no reason to complain about it now, before the fact, when you have a choice still.

God is not one to be mocked.Hell is a man-made teaching. The teaching of hell has driven people away from a loving God who only punishes people in righteousness. If you belive in hell then you don't understand that God would not punish any human for all enernity.
