I know that we as parents have limitations on time and budget. BUT what about them? They seems to have unlimited energy resources... they don't even go to bed early. You know what I mean :(

If I had to offer any advice on this I'd say just make sure you're doing it for your kids not for yourself.

Lots of parents overextend their kids in TONS of activities because so-and-so's kid is doing this one and this-and-that's kid is doing that one and OF COURSE your kid has to be doing ALL of them (either because they want to see all their friends, or because you want them to be as involved as their peers and make yourself look like the best parent possible to all their friends parents by being at all these things.)

Don't ever let peer-pressure from YOUR OWN peer group, or the demands of your kids convince you to enroll them in too many things.

They shouldn't be doing something every night of the week, they need to spend time unwinding at home too, and spend time with YOU!!

And perhaps MOST importantly, make sure that your kid enjoys the activities, that they are involved in the selection process and yes, it's okay to make your kid pick and choose.

My 14 y.o. step-son was involved in Band, piano, and one sport. He's now traded piano for guitar and loves it. My young teenage niece and nephew each play hockey, a summer sport and take one instrument pf music lessons. (All three of them were seriously overextended when they started out with activities though at around ages 6-10!!! Their parents are learning!!!)

My daughter does dance, soccer, and girl scouts.
Girl scouts are mostly trips and on weekends, maybe once or twice a month. Soccer has been over for a month and starts again in march. so it os basically 4 months, sat for practice, sunday for games. dance is every tuesday night for 45 min
We have an understanding that school comes first and if she doesn't do her homework, it's done. She gets straight A's. I believe they can do both if you look in to how much time each thing is. I want her to do a sport for exercise and so far so good

I think they should do as much as possible as long as THEY want to do it... i know from experience that its no fun being pushed into liking something by your parents so dont force them to do anything let them pick out what they like and if they dont like it after theyve tried it..let them do something else

As long as their school work is on point, and they aren't too tired i'd say as much as they want.
