One of my favorite little tricks to help calm down a hyper child -

"Monkey Energy"

Is your little girl familiar with Curious George? Let her see the movie, PBS Kids show or read some Curious George books to her.

Then talk to her about her "monkey energy." Tell her something like, "George is curious and he has a lot of energy. Sometimes those things get him in trouble! When you are using your "monkey energy" like George, I'm going to help you "put it in a bottle" so you don't get in trouble." Then, when you need her to calm down, tell her she has to the count of 10 to burn off her monkey energy. Let her jump up and down or whatever while you count. Then she needs to take her two hands and "put the cap on the bottle." (Have her reach up and touch the top of her head, like putting the cap on.) Then she needs to "keep her monkey energy in the bottle" until you tell her it is time to use it again.

you need to tire her out and at 5 she could still use a short nap too sometimes (maybe 30-45 minutes). The high intelligent part is where the trouble start....: ) Get her workbooks, puzzles, things that will challenge her. Take her outside to play for at least 30 minutes a day 9 get rid of some of the physical energy). Trips to the library are great too. she HAS to be quiet there and there are plenty of books to keep her mind busy. Many libraries have story times she can attend. also set up a quiet time . It should be at the same time every day and give here 2-3 things she can choose to do but she has to do them quietly and by herself. This will give you a break while teaching her some self-control and calmness.

I have a two year old son who has alot of energy and if you find an answer for this can you let me know. My son doesn't have any sugary things either just natural. Maybe at 5 years shift there attention to early school stuff like reading and maths.

Proper diet, low sugar intake, whole grains, NO PROCESSED FOODS (anything that comes in a box to prepare, or wrapped in plastic), low starch intake, NO SODA.

And proper activities to keep her busy. She needs to move her body during a vast part of the day, but some times she should be able to sit down and occupy herself with a more sedate task like writing, playing with toys, or an art project. This is part of parenting, you have to teach the child this skill. The ability to control her body.

Well if she's 5 that's perfectly normal to be hyperactive. Feed her a healthy diet, though. If you really feel the need to keep her calm, I dont personally think medications solve anything, but If she tests positive for ADHD, then there are many medications to help her. I would do something more natural, however, it's better for them. Fish oil pills will help, and I've even heard of acupuncture working.

multi-vitamins with minerals, extra o-megas and melatonin for bedtime rest. Kids like this need a very structures schedule same up time and bedtime ever day even weekends etc. at 5 you could sign her up for gymnastics or karate some fast packed fun. play time at the park on days when no karate or gym.

Well don't let her eat to many sweets and you can talk to her doctor and she can take pills that will make her not as energentic.
